I'm a real possibility. I last went on a cruise to Wonthaggi about 2 years ago and had an accident on the way home - only minor and not the reason I haven't been on another cruise since.

I would love to be on this one because I know the area fairly well and have a holiday house in Apollo Bay. There's plenty of eating places in the Bay, either take-away or eat-in. There's two pubs offering bistro meals (a bit pricier than Melb pubs but meals OK), several cafe-style places and a couple of fish and chip shops (local fish, too) and a pizza shop. There's one very large eat-in called George's that will easily seat everyone. Does all the usual things - burgers, fish/chips, all day breakfasts, pasta, salads and pizzas.

There's plenty of space on the foreshore if it's good weather. There are public BBQs available (expect you have to pay but not sure because I've never used them).

In summary - there's plenty of choices as to what and where to eat in Apollo Bay. Parking in the main street will be almost impossible though; it's always busy in the weekends.

I am a possibilty only for the cruise at this time because I will have a friend here from NZ for that weekend and I'm not sure what his schedule is; I'll see if he can find time for a day to go cruising (to see all those XRs together will be awesome) and to see some of Victoria's fantastic coastal scenery (mad not too IMO) then I'll confirm or otherwise.

Great cruise plan - well done.

Hi silverchris,

Thanks for the advice above. I do value local advice like what EGOXRT has given us as well.

Really hope you can come along. We're pretty flexible about where you join us and where you leave us so hope that influences you.

I have the holiday house in Apollo Bay, but I live in Melbourne's Eastern suburbs. If I can make it I'll be joining in at the Westgate. No way would I want to miss any of the convoy.

Just a note on petrol: My XRT won't make the round trip on a tank because spirited driving through those great curves over the top of the Otways don't make for good fuel economy. I usually fill up in Geelong where the price is sometimes even a bit cheaper then Melbourne. Then I can make the round trip at least back to Geelong. This cruise is about 550km Melb to Melb.

You wouldn't want to fill up in Apollo Bay: there's only one petrol station and they don't even put their price out. It's generally 10 to 15 cents a litre dearer than Melbourne and they didn't have 98 octane last time I was there just before Christmas. :w00t2:
