Today I will be looking at a xr6t that im thinking of buying if it checks out ok.

It has 93k on the clock, highway kms and the guy wants $21,900 for it which I think is fair.

I'll only have 20 mins with the car so what things should I check for to make sure im not buying a trashed turbo.

Also would anyone recommend an NRMA inspection or is it a waste of money?

If it's manual at rest put it in 5th or 6th and let the clutch out - if it stalls the clutch is OK, if it doesn't stall it's likely been thrashed.

Listen for whines when driving it.

Look under the bonnet for oil leaks - around timing cover I had one on my old T.

Once the cars warm (after a drive maybe) give it some revs at idle and look for grey smoke out the exhaust - grey=bad, black=rich so probably OK.

also check if it is still under factory warranty.

it needs to be built after 1/04

if it is built after that then if there are any problems you can get them fixed. before it hits 100000km

that car is cheap because if something goes wrong with it, it will cost you alot of money to fix.

I like the bit where they can't tell you if it has been in an accident or hail damaged!!

if they are worth the money they should be able to pick up a shoddy repair and hail damage :pooh:

I got an NRMA inspection done when I got mine, they picked up alot of stuff I wouldn't of like previous paint touch ups and brakes in need of replacing (I was unable to notice during my viewing).

The guy who completed the inspection was very thorough, he even rang and personally talk me through what he thought of the car. I think it was well worth the cost. (Cant remember how many $ but it wasn't much).

Make sure you drive a few different XR's. I drove about 10 when I was lookin and found a real difference between the good and the bad. Some even with low K's drove like buckets.

Good luck
