A word to the wise here guys, if the car HAS NOT been returned to the ford standard tune ie: reflash back to factory, you CAN NOT UNLOCK the capa box in Australia at a tuning shop, it must be sent to the USA to get unlocked and that'll cost you many many hundreds of dollars (roughly half what a new unit costs)...

Speaking from first hand experiance here by the way, you can confirm this with Capa...

my understanding was this is only true if it has ben used multiple times and it does`t have any lifes left.I think you are incorrect on that one son.

No I think it's true, like I was saying it stops people buying the unit getting the custom tune done flashing it to there car then hand balling it off to a mate.

So in other word the box must be flashed back to the standed for the box to be retuned to another car, other wise if the box hasnt been set back it lock's it self from being retuned, that why you have to send it away.

Yeah sorry didn`t read the first part properly didn`t think anybody would sell the unit without reloading the factory tune in.

Talk about getting screwed.I guess caught me out because I didn`t see the word reset.

Whoops I'm up :spit: creek then. I sold my car with the tune still in it thinking I'd take my flasher to my BF when I get it. I thought I'd just used one of my 5 lives :tease:

How much for SCT to reset it?

Some mixed messages going on here.

I just rang CAPA, spoke to Brodie and described that I had sold my car with the tune still in it but still had my Flasher which I wanted to keep for my next car.

He said $75 to unlock it and $75 to add a new tune. I asked again for full clarification describing all that's said on this thread and he said "it definitely doesn't have to go back to SCT"

He even said if I can find the guy who I sold the car to and put my factory tune back in that'll save me $75. (Not hundreds)

That's straight from the (CAPA) horses mouth.

Go figure

I think the horse that said that needs to be euthanised; no wonder there’s so much confusion.

Well that's very odd, 'cos that is most certainly NOT my understanding of how it works. So, assuming what Brodie told you was correct, how do we explain the $75 saving? Is he saying that if you load the factory tune back into your original car you won't have to pay the $75 unlocking fee? If so, I'll go out on a limb and say that that's incorrect. Your box will still be VIN locked to your original car, it will still need to be unlocked to work on your new car, and you will lose one of the 5 lives in the process.

The only thing I can think of is that CAPA now have the ability to RESET the box, which previously only SCT in the USA had? :nono:

I think the horse that said that needs to be euthanised; no wonder there’s so much confusion.
