Wasn't your car off the road for a year because you were waiting for cv's?

Or did you get cv's replaced, then get busted soon after driving again?

Does that mean you have to drive to Sydney for the test?

If so that's quite a big cost!

Brian

HAHA YUP!!!! put a stock CV in last month, sick of waiting for nothing. But I let it run outta rego, anyway, failed blue slip because of cooler. Yes I have to drive to Sydney, and I don't even know if its gunna pass!!! YES petrol ain't cheap these days!!

The test is free though, so that's one bonus!!

So car has been off tha road for about 18 months now!! My story only gets better!!!

That's one of the worst stories I've heard.

The rta are a law unto their own.

They really couldn't give a stuff about anyone that lives outside of Sydney, and Broken Hill is almost as far west as you can go.

On the positive side see if you can time it to catch up with a Sydney cruise.... 6 days time!

If NSW RTA put as much effort into fixing it's roads as it does being a total bunch of faceless fuknuckles, the state would be a much better place.

You got it in one saleen! Try drivin trucks through western sydney in particular Wetherill Park. They're always on the hunt for people to pull over and go over the trucks. I've already been pulled up twice and recieved one warning this year.

I agree totally.

as for the test I think I did one on my 260z years ago.

I had to get the verry basic emissions test done at idle then a drive by 3rd gear 47kph sound check.

not sure if this is the one as it was many many drinks ago :spoton:

You would think that there was provision for people in the bush as you should not have to drive 1000+km to do a stupid test.

I would try to spin some hardship BS to the RTA and see what they say.

As for the test, read below:

What is the IM240 emission test?

The RTA, after conducting research into an effective emission test has decided to use the IM240 test to check vehicle emissions during stage 1 of its (I/M) program. The IM240 is so named for its 240 second or 4 minute test cycle. The IM240 is a test in where the vehicle emissions are measured while the vehicle is driven on a treadmill-like device called a dynamometer. In the IM240, the vehicle is operated over a driving cycle that has many different speeds. The cycle is designed to resemble typical city driving and includes modes such as acceleration and deceleration.Vehicle acceleration and deceleration are significant sources of emissions from malfunctioning vehicles.

Mass emissions are more accurate way of measuring the emission performance of large and small engines and the IM240 emissions test captures the entire exhaust stream by measuring the total mass of emissions from the vehicle (grams of pollutant per kilometer driven).

Hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO²) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions are all measured during the IM240 test.

IM240 Test Procedure. How is it done?

The IM240 begins by driving the vehicle onto the dynamometer, activating vehicle restraints, properly placing the exhaust collection device, and positioning the auxiliary engine cooling fan.An inspector then "drives" the vehicle according to a prescribed cycle displayed on a computer monitor. The inspector follows the driving cycle by using the accelerator pedal and brake pedal to speed up or slow down just as if the vehicle were being driven on a city street.

The length of the IM240 test varies depending on the vehicle's emissions. To determine emission levels, second-by-second instantaneous emission measurements are taken and integrated by a computer. The IM240 is also able to measure fuel economy. The computer continually monitors and assesses the emission levels during each phase of the test and uses pass/fail algorithms to identify clean or dirty vehicles. As soon as the emission rates indicate that a vehicle is exceptionally clean or dirty, the computer automatically notifies the inspector to stop testing. For vehicles that are close to maximum allowable emission levels, the test may continue for a full 240 seconds. Thus, while the complete driving cycle is 240 seconds long, the average test time will be only two to three minutes.

On completion of the test, a pass/fail report, ( complete with an emissions computed graph ), is available for analysis.

After reading that.I love Queensland :roflmbo: I drove home the other day with a new box trailer that I just bought that had no rego plate on it,and a Queensland transport officer drove from behind my car and travelled straight past me without even pulling me up.Couldnt be anymore obvious then that :spoton:

I still reckon writing a letter of special consideration to allow you to use a "CLOSER TO HOME" dyno emissions test isnt a bad idea.

surely they cant expect you to drive 2K for a 4minute test....
