I thought the idea behind those underdrive pulleys was to retain the original size but make them out of a lighter but equally as strong and obviously more expensive material. I would be very concearned with slowing vital components down.

Hmmm....just having a look around Batten's website and came accross this, has anybody tried this out?

Scanner/Reflash for BA

Hand Held Scanner/Reprogrammer

7th May 2004

Currently in development stages is the hand held  Scanner / Programmer that will enable an owner of a BA to Reflash their own PCM with Basic parameter changes to accommodate for modification to their vehicle.  Different levels of program will be available  depending on level of modification.

Also, the hand held unit should be capable of retrieving  D.T.C.'s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the PCM which will make for a very powerful addition to the tool box.

Scheduled for the first prototype testing in may.  Other test units have been working with success. Positive feedback has been given that the XR6 T reflash was a success and that the definitions for these vehicles can be made.

This is my fear as well.

I would not be too worried about the alternator, its not like you will be sitting for a long time idling while draining the battery.  The stop go city driving will allow the batter to charge.

I am more worried about the power steering and aircon loading up the drivebelts and cauising stalling problems.

I have not heard if the XR8's and GT's have a stalling problem, but if they do underdrive pullies will make it worse.

It won't stall, but I would be worried about sitting in city trafic on a 35+ deg day, when your aircon is working harder (staying in longer because the RPM's are less), your water pump is not pumping as much (also because the RPM's), your alternator is not producing as many amp's (once again the RPM's), BUT, the engine is not cooling as well , the cooling fans are on high all the time (drawing 40 or so amp's) and you've got less current in your battery. Not a good situation.

Having said that, it's probably fine if you keep to a drag strip!

Mark.

So that rules out 99% of all xr6 owners.

This new thread is here to discuss the results for the 6 Cyl 20% Performance Under Drive Performance Balancer.

The other thread called 6cyl 20% Under Drive, is some what now out dated, with the results printed the answers to a lot of questions is here.

As stated by me in the other thread,

I have an offer to get some BA-BF 6 Cyl 20% Under Drive Balancers for a very good price. I have only one go at this and I’m seeing if you guys would like to jump on board. I will give out pricing only as a PM due to the nature of the buy.

You will need to change a belt with this product, as your old belt will no longer fit. The new belt from Ford is 6PK2185 and it will set you back $61 including GST.

This Under Drive Balancer is said to provide a power gain of about 5 to 6 rwkw (claim by manufacturer) and will fit both BA-BF 6 Cyl Turbo and Non Turbo Vehicles.

Please PM me for more details.

All of the above still rings true however some changes to benefit us all have occurred and there are a lot more facts about the fitting and installation of this product.

heres a pic of the Balancer

post-4521-1168122321_thumb.jpg

Install facts:

There is NO need to remove the radiator of your vehicle to install this product, however the fans do need to be removed, which is no big deal.

The belt recommended for the job by the manufacturer 6PK2185 from Ford is a good product and should be used if you can get one. It retails from Ford at $61 however can be found a lot cheaper from other parts suppliers.

If you can not get one of these belts a 6PK2180 will also work just as good and again Ford can get it for you but you can save money by going elsewhere. I got one for $38.

It is also strong recommendation of C&V Performance Automotive Services, Caringbah Sydney, that the Front Timing Case Seal be changed at the time of installation of the in Balancer. This is a precautionary measure only, as the old seal may develop a leak after the changing of the balancer and at only $14.95 (Trade Price from Ford) the cost of the seal in next to nothing for the peace of mind it buys. Don’t be tight guys, do it. Front Timing Case Seal part number is XFC 6700 A.

Fitting takes no more than one and a half hours at most and if you find a workshop or tuner that knows what their doing it would no doubt be even faster.

If your pride and joy has been Custom tuned you need to have your trusted tuner do a Power run to take a look at your Air Fuel ratio. My car was Custom Tuned at C&V and after the Power Run was done the A/F and changed but not by much, other tuners may lean vehicles tune out more than mine so please don’t be tight again guys it’s $50 for peace of mind.

Heres some common Questions answer about this product,

Q: Will this product affect my Air Conditioning after fitting?

A: After fitting the 20% Under Drive Balancer I drove home with the A/C on Max, head lights on with driving lights on and CD pumping Pennywise, there was no problem with it at all, the car ran smooth and all functions worked as normal.

Q: Just wondering... did your harmonic balancer require honing so that it would fit onto the crankshaft?

A: With some love from a persuader the balancer slipped on like a glove.

Q: What do I need to do to get one?

A: Ordering this product is as easy as. Drop me a PM and I’ll send you back more details about the product. If you like it send a PM to me with your email address, I’ll reply to your email with my Banking details. Due to the rules of the FordXR6TurboForum.com, I can’t send you my banking details in a PM. So this is the best way to do it.

Q: My Turbo XR6 runs over 250rwkw is this the right product for me?

A: Please talk with your trusted tuner about this product, this balancer is reduced in weight over the standard stock Ford Balancer. This may have a negative effect on your engine. Please check with your tuner or the manufacturer.

Q: What’s the cost of postage?

A: Postage is only $11 anywhere in Australia. I can send them to NZ if you like PM me for a price.

Q: How long will it take to get to me?

A: After you make the deposit, I’ll make the order same day (or next working day) and they’ll be an 20% Performance Under Drive on your door with in 2 working days, most of the guys get them under 24hrs later. I did.

Q: Will the fitting of this balancer void my new car warranty with Ford.

A: The R&D for this product is said to be the hard work of a well known tuning house in Melbourne who are responsible for most of the under drive kits for the Boss engines. Many product this tuning house produce and put their name to will enhance your Fords performance but not void you warranty with Ford. That being said please check with your local Ford dealer for all the facts on this matter.

Lets get to the results,

So on the 5th of Jan 2007 my car was fitted with the 20% Under Drive Performance Balancer at C&V Caringbah. Con’s very happy to answer any questions about the product if you call him. C&V is not the manufacturer of the product and C&V has no intrest in the sales of it at all, although C&V now have experience in the fitting of the product and have formed their own opinions about it.

post-4521-1168122189_thumb.jpg

As you can see there’s a good 9 rear wheel Kw gain at the top end on the dyno print out that torque is up as accordingly. You can see where the Dyno operator has jumped on the gas as at about 100kmph to begin the red run. The new performance Balancer right away red run shows power right from the hammer drop.

The dyno test was done in 4th gear so I don’t have any dyno results showing the 20% Performance Under Drive Balancer’s down low power.

I’ll put it out to member who buy this product to give us their feel back asap about how the product performance down low and up high, with the A/C on and off.

All I can say is its bloody amazing the difference this product has made to my ride, I wish fitted it months ago (I may have placed higher in one or two dyno comps) as my car now seems to be ripping through the rev range. I strongly feel that this product would produce equal results in other Ford 6 cyl and I’m happy to go on helping others get access to this product through this group buy.

Thanks for your time and support guys and I hope to help more of you soon drop me a PM anytime.

Greg, NOSXR

I want to put an idea out there guy's, Im thinking of lifting the price by $5.

100% of this $5 will go to the Forum here as a thankyou for giving the Group buy a home. No one has contacted me about this from the forum at all, I just feel its the right thing to do.

Please give me your feel back about this guys. Is $5 to much or to little???

Thanks to all member here for your support, the group buys going very well and the supplier of the product is very happy with us all.

To keep you all up dated, we haven't yet reached the sales numbers that the supplier wanted to do us this awsome price. However the supplier has not placed any presure on me at all at this time but I would like to see us hold up our end of the deal and push on with the group buy.

Thanks again guys and thanks to all of you who have jumped in already, please post up your feel back. :spoton:
