I rang SGIO today regarding insurance and lowering / wheels. I was told I have to have 100mm minimum ground clearance anywhere under the car. I was told I can fit 20 x 8.5 wheels, but the tyre must not sit under the guard.... not complying to these would lead to no claim payout.

I have SL lovells and I cant get my fingers under the guards on the rear with 245 x 45 x 17. Grrr.

Can people please state their minimum ground clearance with reference too:

1. What springs / suspension set-up;

2. What wheel size, tyre width & profile.

Also does your tyres sit under the guards.

Now I just need something with a 100mm diameter to roll under the car!!! appreciate the help everyone.

Cheers

I think you will find that their rules are the same rules that govern ALL cars.

I actually thought the min height was 110mm.

I do not know how anyone could drive a car that low and not hit driveways, speedhumps and dips on the road.

I think the Typhoon is 125mm, however I may be wrong...

And it is painful at best for supermarkets driveways and speedbumps.

Personally I could see no benefit of going below 100mm especially on Australian roads...

Didnt you need to raise the F6 to get in the driveway Mal?

With the king springs SL front and SSL rear on 18" wheels with 245's I think you'll find the XR is very close to 100mm if not right on. I think the exhaust is the thing that comes the closest to the ground just under the rear seats. 100mm is really not that low when you see that the rest of the car is higher than the exhaust.

If the car is 100mm off the ground why dose it mater if the wheel sits under the rim?? which is unlikly anyway as mine is pretty dumped and mine sits just on top of the rim.

Oh yeah the lowest point of my car is the cat, if I could tuck that a bit more I could go a little lower but you will find the exhaust is the lowest part of the car.
