Worst part is you cant even use a bucket at home anymore....

Got a 2250 Litre / 500 Gallon tank not so long ago.

It took one night of steady rain to fill up.

We got three cars .

What gets me is the fact that to wash a car needs not much water. Having a shower uses more.

Now I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can wash the cars !! :-)

Ok, so I have the same size tank in my new place. So If I hook up my garden hose to my rainwater tank, I am allowed to wash the car?

I can't see a problem.

I made up a " Tank Water Used " . I put that where it can be seen when I wash the car, so people that go past my place don't give me that What t f look.

To get water pressure I use a small electric pump between two hoses.

Don't ever think you can't wash your car at home because you can.

You CAN use a bucket as well.

The only restriction is using pottable water.

If you use reclaimed or rain water etc it CAN be used in a bucket and to wash your car with.

Something to think about,,,,,

Do you jump straight into the shower as soon as you've turned the tap on? I don't think so.

Most of us will let the cold water run till warm then hop in the shower. That waste water going down the drain is very clean and can be "RECLAIMED" into your bucket to use on the car. RECLAIM heaps of buckets into a few 40lt drums and you've got good clean water to wash the car with.

You'd get about 10 litres from each shower. So with 4 of us at home I fill a 40lt drum, daily.

Most high pressure washers will suck up the water from a drum of reclaimed water.

So I've been washing the car at home ever since the restrictions, and I use less water than the certified amount for a commercial car wash. (75lts) And it's all reclaimed water. None from the tap etc.

I spoke to Yarra Valley water about this as well and they said it was a great idea.

...I was doing the right thing washing my XR at the local car wash... Hooked the water gun hose around my spoiler on the way out, didn't realise, snapped the gun in half, hit me in the arse and did $700 worth of damage. Fun... :roflmbo:
