How hard are these things to steal anyway? I heard they were a bit hard to take, but once there becomes a market for used parts Im sure the crims will knock them off in a flash...

Insurance for me

Insurance for me

Our type of cars are not stolen very often and they are rarley involved in car jackings. The crooks prefer our rivals, the wrx and gtr's instead.

But overall I think with our model of cars we have been somewhat lucky and the crooks have not yet recognised the value of a T in its ability to carry heavy loads, such as heavy tools, stolen goods from stealings etc and other crooks to and from jobs with the performance that T's have. Its only a matter of time if we all continue to simply rely on insurance and the standard immobiliser.

if you are really worried and you have a flash tuner, as I understand it if you pull the plug hafway through uploading a tune this will immobilise the car and make it almost impossible to start without another tuner, codes etc,

Would be a pain in the ass to do all the time but handy for a once off or every now and again if you are really worried

You could upload a tune that has injectors, ignitors, throttle etc turned off, but it takes up a space in your flasher and it's seriously a pain in the arse to have to do that every time you park your car!

If someone really wants to take your car they will find a way. Best thing you can do is keep your car keys secure and close to you. Only times I have heard of XRs being stolen is either the keys were pinched from the house or it was on a flatbed.

Nothing wrong with my insurance :spoton:

The Data dot stickers keep the part strippers and rebirthers away as well.

You are kidding arn't you. DD are only good if somehow the police get a hold of the part's, which happens to about 0.002% of stolen part's. WHat is slowing rebirthing down with newer ford's is the sticker id tag's, once removed there buggered. They can't be reissued for any reason. Also the new rta laws that require any car (under 1o yr's old) that's a repairable write off to go over the pit's, every nut and bolt that goes into it must have receipts. That stops stolen part's going onto damaged car's.

DD do sh*t for car that have been stripped and sold as part's as ono one checks to see if it's a stolen part or not, how can they. If they do manage to find and somehow read the dot's they have no idea if it's stolen or not.

Sad but true. :fool:

Actually, not true.

Normally, without the dots, a car is simply an assembly of pure commodity parts.

A VIN plate or VIN sticker gives a unique identity to a particular assembly (car) but the parts of the car only retain the VIN identity as long as they are connected to the (assembly) car. Remove the part from the car, and the parts no longer have a link back to that (assembly) car or to the VIN number.

The dots take the VIN plate or VIN sticker and replicated it over the individual parts that make up the (assembly) car. Now the individual parts of the car have the same VIN as the entire (assembly) car. The (assembly) car, is in fact covered in miniture versions of the VIN.

It is a simple matter for the police to check a VIN sticker or VIN plate to determine if a car (an assembly of parts) is stolen.

The dots are a copy of the VIN. Therefore it is just as simple for the police to determine that a particular part, which now contains its own copy of the VIN, is stolen.
