I wouldnt bother cleaning it mate, just replace the hose with a new one. I bought a new solenoid from Parramatta Ford in NSW $48. Also bought some new boost hose and small clamps from super cheap - replaced in 1 hr, runs much better now!

I did it last night, Just pulled the hose off the solenoid and sprayed it. To be honest I notice just a mild difference than before, not too much. The car does spool up louder, but generally it was worth the effort. Took me ages to do though, then I realised I should of taken the battery out first lol.

looks like Zap (Mal) had the images hosted on his own website which is now  either offline or decommissioned... Hopefully he can be contacted by somebody who has his details and he can re-supply the pictures so we can host them directly on this site so that they won't ever disappear like this again :spoton:

For now, though... there's a YouTube clip on how to do it :)

yep... and 600+ posts of anecdotal evidence saying to clean the solenoid and wastegate actuator diaphragm because it has a noticeable positive benefit says that it's not silly, even if double-R thinks it's a myth xD

if cleaning it makes a difference then a new one is like its just been cleaned (personal anecdote from my old falcon)

it's not a myth, its just if it improves things then your solenoid is not reacting fast enough to whats being asked of it.

also the sprays could damage the rubber in the wastegate actuator.
