I think that's where consoles have PC's beat, nothing like playing the games on a 50inch HD screen

Really? How about playing at 1920x1200 on my 200cm (80") high def projector?

that's closer to 1200i equivalent.....

Can do 2048x1600 too if I want to.

Of course I could turn my graphics down a ton, and play it at a mere 1080i if on a plasma or LCD TV if for some reason that seemed like a good idea.....

PC screens are way higher spec than Plasmas and LCD TVs too.

Also dont just focus on resolution. There are things like frame rates, textures, polygons and a ton of other factors in determining what makes the best picture. Console games run smoothly because all the detail is turned down to match the low spec hardware in the console. You can do the same in PC's...but unlike consoles you can turn everything up on PC games to suit your better than average hardware if you have it. Best of both worlds - cheap hardware you can still play. Good hardware and you play the best quality graphics games in the world.

From what I have seen a console reaching 1080i for a game has quite simple graphics compared to a top notch PC game.

Doesnt surprise me - consoles are more and more starting to use PC components (Intel chips, Nvidia graphics chips ect). They are just cheap PC's focussed mainly on playing games.

It will be many years before consoles have the raw cpu, memory and graphics power I have in my PC.....

For those who dont know whats coming to PC's this year (Direct X 10 but you need Vista and a DX10 card), attached are a few shots from a couple of games to be released in the upcoming months...

Stick that in your console and smoke it!

hehe....

Yeah sorry I know a good games pc is heaps more powerful than a console. What I meant was most people play PC games on a monitor, IE playing a 1st person shooter its good to be a desk with the mouse and keyboard, so most people screens are only gonna be around 20inch or so. Where as console its the norm to be hooked up to a much larger screen.

Those pics are from crysis yeah? That looks fkn, sweet from some of the vids I have seen. Time to get me a 8800gtx I think

Yeah but ya stick a disc in your games console, and away you go. No need to adjust anything, no worring about the bloody thing crashing on you during a game, it just works!

No doubt the PC can crap all over the games console when it comes to picture quality, but for ease of use and game play (For those of us that are happy to enjoy the game play of a game and not worry about pixels and omg did you see the tearing of that polygon in the grandstand that I just drove past at 300kph)

The console wins hands down.

You can bring it home, plug it in and it works first time with wireless controllers and all the other goodies you can get for them.

Want to play over the internet that's fine too. Actually want to go to a mates house and play linked, just pick it up and away you go. HD DVD or Blueray as well ready to go.

Well I downloaded the Demo of Gran Turismo for PS3 straight onto the Harddrive, and all I can say as I am amazed, its ORSOME!

Graphics on the PS3 wont be as great as a computer with all the latest gear, but I am more about the party atmosphere a console gives to the gamer.

Much fun is to be had with the likes of singstar, buzz and tekken!!

sounds like this console vs computer battle is like Ford vs holden.

Always has been. The biggest argument is between shooters on the PC and consoles. It's pretty hard aiming with a controller so in console games they generally have auto-aim turned on as default. There's also RTS games that don't translate wll to a console due to not having a mouse.

I have been a console player since the Atari 2600 days, owning nearly every console that came to the market. I was never interested in computers and why would I when the games on the console were just as user friendly.

Lately though I lost interest in the same rehashed games being released to the consoles and decided to sell my 360 and build a pc that could play a game past the year 1999. The other thing that put me off the consoles was that my 360 died twice in the first 6 months. Unlike a pc I couldn't pull it apart and replace the dead bits with new components. I had to send it away (which was an experience in it's own) to have it repaired and hope that the problem had been addressed.

I'm a pretty thorough person (almost pedantic) when it comes to spending big wads of cash. It took me months to finally decide which specs were for me when buying all the components, without blowing the budget. But playing games from both perspectives I can understand what works for others and what doesn't.

I think you can. If there is a CD installation program with the keyboard that can be installed. My brother is going to try install a Linuxs program so he can use the PS3 as a computer and a set top box to watch Top gear and other shows he downloads off the net.
