Hi Guys,

Im a recent ford convert from Expensive Daewoo and just bought an XR6T. Im still a p plater in VIC and im curious to know if any other p platers out there have got a lot of unwanted cop attention in this type of car? The car is stock from factory atm but im still thinking that if ppl have had problems, I might take all the badges off, spray the intercooler black, etc. These are just suggestions but before I do anything any feedback would be great, thanks!

Matty

that's it man.. make it looks as much as a N/A as possible so u dont get unwanted attention.. and keep the visual mods as standard as possible so they cops have no reason to pull u over.

and just dont drive like a dickhead and u should be fine :fool:

cops won't intentionally or necessarily harrass or target you because of your car or licence. If you drive like a tool they'll know. I'm not a P plater, but I was 22 when I bought my T, and the only time I've been pulled over was once for speeding <15km/h over the limit. The other times have all been after midnight where a cop car has followed me and pulled me over for RBT purposes.

Drive safe mate, and keep a good head on ya shoulders.. it's a lot of power for a P plater.

I certainly don’t intend this to be interpreted as cop-bashing, but they do target these vehicles especially if they notice a young male driving.

Several times I have been waved through RBT’s only for them to realise the demographic of the driver and then pull me over at the last minute. I have also been pulled up on the highway for a “friendly chat” numerous times.

I can’t blame them though - most people my age in high performance vehicles are absolute tools.

Yeah spray the intercooler black and also try to install a lower grill of some kind to kinda hide it away?

I sorta agree Tab, but they won't target it anymore then an old Late model camira with a backward wearing capped teen. Obviously P platers are gonna get a little more attention, especially in light of the current "epidemic" as the government likes to call it.

I guess what I mean is, an XR shouldn't get any unwarranted attention.. it hasn't reached WRX status yet.. meaning some of the young tools who have given the rex a bad reputation.

Drive sensibly, and the cops won't have anything. It goes without saying though, that if people (p platers in particular) mod their car, ie lower it, BOV, big rims, exhaust etc.. of course its gonna draw extra attention to them.. So, those people shouldn't have any gripe when they do get pulled over for the extra attention.

I've been pulled over, with my 19s, the car lowered.. 3 fatties in the back (made it looked dumped), plus the exhaust burbling away etc, and the cops didn't give a rats.. all they were doing was an RBT.. if I had been pulled over for speeding, or doing something silly.. we'll I'd expect that they'd give the car a once over.

Keeping in mind that cops will often do a rego check too... so if the driver doesn't look like a mid forties mother or father that the car is registered too, they might very well pull it over to check licence details.. happened to my mate often enough when he used to drive his mums rexy around.

In the 3 years owning my TRANNY I only ever got pulled over once.It was about 1 month before I sold it and the cop only pulled me up to do a liecence check on me.He never looked under the bonnet or anything but I reckon the reason he pulled me over was cause the car looked like a TRANNY GT with a shiny APS exhaust and a polished front mount cooler hanging out the front. :spoton:

I didnt mention thou that I got booked for not having my liecence :w00t2: 6 months suspension  I have 1 month to go :blaah:
