Many cars these days use composite materials in the structural strength of the cars being built, it not heavy steel so much these days, believe it or not, the windscreen in most cars adds to the structural strength of the roof. Once that bar has been cut from the support, it is a panel shop job to replace the radiator support panel if a legit rwc is required, plus any other repairs from "trimming" the metal bars

So is tab..That's why windscreens fail RWC if cracked because they won't perform as required in an accident..If a part has no point it won't be installed..That piece of plastic may not appear 'structural' because it's 'brittle and plasticky' but the fact is that piece alone absorbing and breaking during impact could maybe absorb 20N of the force which puts you 20N closer to surviving..Some people don't believe it but even air boxes and reservoirs in cars are sometimes considered when determining impact absorption.. It really is an amazing field of engineering..

BUT when a switched on insurance assesor notes the modified sections and rejects the claim. OUCH. Imagine if the car was written off.

If we advise them of the changes made to the car, surely the insurances company would cover most claims?

No im not an engineer and yes I will be very upset if the car is written off and I am not paid out. I also said in an earlier post" this was only my opinion". I can understand the windscreen bit, just like the rear seat in sedans is also structural. What you say is correct, you got me on technicalities. If you hit the support bar with a 2kg hammer it will go through the support bar. The falcon weighs 1700kg + crew. So 30,000Nm(1800kg at 60kmhr). A 2kg sledge hammer would hit with about 30Nm of force. If a part has no point it won't be installed..The bar supports the standard cooler doesn't it? I have only done my car and I can't remember. I would say they would cover the car cost maybe, but if the engine ended up mounting the driver in a bingle and the turbo burnt his willy. They could easily say the front support bar is missing, injuries to the driver wont be covered. "IMO"

Could be wrong.

(Around 1k) so it would work out to around 1700 which means youre not saving anything. Edited 12/08/13 11:08 PM by AaronXR
