VCT is Variable Cam Timing (not too sure what it does)

Actually, you'll notice that the XR6T has Dual Variable Cam Timing.

Basically, your camshaft controls the movement of the valves and under normal circumstances you would play with the lift, timing or duration in order to modify where your power kicks in. ie high end power would sacrifice low end power etc. (simplified). The concept of VCT is that it changes the timing as the engine is working in order to provide you with both low end and high end power.

That's what I've been lead to believe anyway, if anyone with more knowledge wants to correct me then go for it!

Just found this at

Dual VCT phasers

BA Falcon introduces dual infinitely variable camshaft timing, one of the first applications of this technology across the Ford world.

The aim of the system is to boost torque at any rpm position.

In addition to the improved performance across a broad rev range, there is a noticeable decrease in fuel consumption, especially at part throttle.

At cruise on highway, where throttle openings are reduced, the system is able to retard the timing by as much as 50 degrees.

This cuts fuel consumption as well as providing internal exhaust gas recirculation that helps lower tailpipe emissions.

At idle, the camshaft is advanced by 10 degrees for smoother running.

Camshaft variation of 60-degrees allows the four-valve engine to provide plenty of low down torque. Traditionally four-valve engines demonstrate a strong top end but suffer from a weak bottom end. Thanks to the dual VCT system, the Falcon I6 provides purposeful torque from very low revs.

The transition through the 60-degree advance/retard range is seamless, unlike some less advanced systems where there is a defined point at which one or other program takes effect.

The amount of adjustment is determined by comparing the position of the camshaft with a pre-mapped calibration.

Each camshaft on the I6 engine is fitted with a camshaft phaser that allows up to 60-degrees of variation, depending on engine load. The variation is activated via oil-pressure acting against the phaser.

Considering the topic, I'll ask one.

Can anyone confirm what auto box the XR6-T uses? Is it the standard one used with the Barra 182 or is it the one used in the XR8? I have asked this question of two dealers but no positive response.

I have heard from a reliable source within FOMOCO that it is the one from the XR8 as it is alot stronger.

About the Auto, what I heard was that it's exactly the same as what you'll find in the 182kw. The XR8 is suppose to be different, and from what I've heard again, is, that the auto gearbox is one of the reasons for the delay??? To add to all this it's rumoured that the reason the XR6T has been limited to 450Nm is because of the auto gearbox.

Mind you I will get my Auto XR6T very soon, lets hope it's up to scratch :(

Of course this all could be crap, but thought I'd share it all with you. (just gossip probably  )

I know in the manual the gearbox is different between the XR8 and the Turbo. The XR8 has the Tremec 5 speed, apparently to handle the extra torque. Not sure about the auto though.

Guys,

Aftre talking to my local Frod guy yesterday. The XR8 Auto will not be out for a while yet. They are talking April. They are having issues with the Auto for the XR8. Apparently they are looking at the auto used in the Maseratti for the XR8. Same Torgue range. Need to do work on the gearing though. ..
