You mention in your last post that your last turbo had 245 rwkw's stock.

Not knocking anyone but I find that very hard to see as I do not think even the bf typhoons are that high standard.

If the Dynowog sees this post he can verify that measurement - he was more surprised than anyone...and maybe he can explain.

I've no need to talk it up as I don't even own it now.

I found it pretty hard to belive too- it didn't change the fact though.

Something tells me there is a great discrepancy to the quoted power on the sales brouchers and the actual cars performance.

I believe DW's prediction was a 13.5 for the car - I only tried 1/4 miling it once (first time ever), 3 runs best was the first at 14.4 @ 102ish mph (can't quite remember the mph figure)- but with no skills in a good launch etc... I thing someone with some ability would have been able to make it go faster.

I havent seen the zf fail yet since they have been in the falcon, and Im working on them every day. My uncle owns a separate business and is an auto specialist, he has rebuilt a few since im pretty sure they have been in the bmw's for a few years, however the issues my unlce has come across I have never seen.

So you'd be the bloke to talk to re performance mods or the potential of the trans eh?

Its german built so it has to be. Really has anyone heard of it fail yet??

Oh and the mods, well yeah I dont have the bent bonnet like yours.

Further to goldie post, I didn't realise until I had a look in the owners manual recently, but Park should never be selected while the engine is spinning. I think this may be the cause of the thump in some cars. States you should start the car in neutral, and only put it into park when the engine stops. This should help look after the box

Being a mechanic, that sends alarm bells ringing, and the trans is extremely sensitive to incorrect fluid levels, to check properly is is required to monitor the trans fluid temp sensor and check it at 39-40 degrees, which poses an issue as the fluids operating temp is alot higher, then there is a precise sequence to shift gears, bla bla bla. Bottom line I hope this isn't a sign, bloody great trans to drive though.

How often would you change the trans oil?

It's the first time I've ever owned an auto and wonder about some of the simple stuff like:

Firstly run her in properly. There are some really good forum replys about this.

While moving anticipate kick down time delay and power application, be EXTREMELY carefull in the wet. She will bite hard.

Use Perf auto select when below 80km otherwise normal Drv above 80km is fine. Perf selected adds about 300-500rpm over Drv revs.

For the launch select Perf, just prior to launch hold her above 2000rpm with brakes locked. let go and plant it on green and enjoy. Traction control ON for no smoke.

Thanks for the advice I undertook a pretty good run in procedure - ending up with some 2nd and 3rd gear full throttle runs (before I clicked 50ks on the ODO).

I'll try a few launches soon too - just getting used to these new controls.

So launching is just loading up the torque convertor by braking and accelerating at the same time (when stationary) then dumping the accelerator and lifting of the brake at the same time. I imagine there is a bit of an art to it......

Ran at Calder with a consistant 14.6 second run stock using that technique. :roflmbo: Temp was around 27C high humidity. A mate with manual was running 14.3

I think higher revs might help but I started to get wheel spin on the launch with traction control off.

I dont think loading up the torque converter is good for it so I try and keep it instantaneous. (Any auto techs out there please contribute your thoughts.)

Lets see what the mods can do.
