and if u wana give it a squirt from the lights hold down the brake firmly with left foot, hold the revs at 2000 and let rip  . then after your fart clears let the car launch. pumpadump!

the arse of the car will squat while youre doing this which is normal.

You put the thing in D (for Drag) and leave it there. One of the reasons it's called the "lazy man's box". If you want to be changing every time you come to a stop light you might as well have bought a manual.

I also think the ZF box is bullet proof and wont matter how you use it eitherway.

that's a funny question. I usually just leave it in drive if theres not alot of traffic, but if its peak hour, I put it into neutral and step on the footbrake. our handbrakes suck

You can also slide the shifter to the left and go into Performance mode. This will increase the redline and also stopt he car using 6th gear.

In this mode you can also use the semi-auto mode and manually sleect gears. But a warning, that in this mode the car will not shift up if you hit redline, it will just bounce the limiter and make you feel like you have hit a wall.

As for normal driving, just put it in drive and use the brake. I never take it out of drive unless I am parked or reversing.

I havent seen the zf fail yet since they have been in the falcon, and Im working on them every day. My uncle owns a separate business and is an auto specialist, he has rebuilt a few since im pretty sure they have been in the bmw's for a few years, however the issues my unlce has come across I have never seen. one thing we do agree on is ford reckons the oil and filter (which is integrated into the sump) apparantly never requires changing. Being a mechanic, that sends alarm bells ringing, and the trans is extremely sensitive to incorrect fluid levels, to check properly is is required to monitor the trans fluid temp sensor and check it at 39-40 degrees, which poses an issue as the fluids operating temp is alot higher, then there is a precise sequence to shift gears, bla bla bla. Bottom line I hope this isn't a sign, bloody great trans to drive though.

Appreciate all the responses - sounds like shifting from N or P to D and back again at the lights is a waste of time and worse for the transmission anyway.

I'd like to be able to just pull the handbrake though rather than lean on the foot brake all the time - we'll see how that goes.

I've been leaving it mostly in Perf mode - and did my gradual build up to 2nd and 3rd gear full throttle runs within the first 60km on the Odo.

Will sort some pics by the weekend - it's the hamburger with the lot re options even the sports steering wheel.

I must say I think it might be a little quicker than the manual I owned before this (which measured 245rwkw at XTC - completely stock).

I'd be interested to see what this would one will put out at the wheels.

Thanks again - I've driven plenty of autos, just never owned one, so I wanted to do the right thing by it from new.
