Maybe somebody's making fibreglass knockoffs, but you can buy the genuine article for under $1K (bare).

Due to ADR97 from memory. Alot of people will tell you they have them and havent been booked they can consider themselves lucky. It`s due to if the have an accident there has been no adr testing on the bonnet therefore they dont know how it will smash. There habe been stories of snapping of at the hinges going through windscreen etc, the same applies to the carbon fibre bonnets out there.Biggest problem is the people that make these bonnets will not spend the money to get them engineered because it cost too much. Do a search this topic has been covered many times, The same applies to fibreglass bumpers ast they are frontal impact.Well have a nice day I looked at all this before I bought my steel xr8 bonnet.←Stang,I seem quite confused as you bought a steel bonnet then cut a hole in it, therefore yours is now illegal .As far as being lucky to not get booked, how many rice cars have you seen being booked for there outrageous body kits? virtually none as there being done for noise or being to low or just being ricers!I am not trying to justify the fibreglass bonnet but please do tell me if there is anyone here that has been booked for one and for the fact that yours now looks like my fibreglass bonnet should have you worried about drawing this so called attention?Cheers,Brett ←Incorrect Brett as no stuctual part of the bonnet was modified only the skin therefor not altering the stuctual integrity of the bonnet.←As for people that have been booked , just jump on the nissan silvia forum and they can tell you all about it.←I assume your bonnet is still illegal though until you get a modification plate? if someone can clarify this for me please do?Yes as I said though the reason they get pulled up is simply for owning these types of cars. The jap cars already have a rep with the police regardless of who they are it is the cars they drive that gets them into trouble in the first place before being bashed with defect notices for everything under the sun. I haven't heard of any ford person with fibreglass bonnets being booked yet, and I mainly think this is because the cars themselves dont stand out like rice burners do.←nope checked with RTA as I have not altered the structual integrity of the bonnet, only skin has been cut not bracing. I checked with the RTA with height of my scoop and where it was going to be placed and what was going to be cut.My bonnet in an accident will crumble the same way as any other ford bonnet.Hope this helps, as for people with fibreglass bonnets you take the risk that's all I am saying nothing more nothing less. However it is fact that in an accident they can snap where the hinges are and the have been people who have complained about them not aligning or warping. They said no worries.

In the fine print in all policies it the line that the vehicle must be legally roadworthy at all times to retain coverage. In this case, an extra grand now would be well worth it in the event your insurance company wants to play hard ball following a driving misshap.←I think every1 will agree... u need more cowbell

They said no worries.←Hmmm that's weird. Im with just car and they say "the FIBRE GLASS BONNET fitted to your car is excluded from cover". I got a fibreglass bonnet from awc, and from day one it has had a bow in it. It looks like the bonnet hasn't been put down properly and im getting sick of every second person pointing it out and the marshalls at WSID thinking its not down. Im not that stupid . Anywayz ill be looking to get a real XR8 bonnet soon, even though they are very expensive but at least ill know it wont have fitment issues. Plus I think im the car mentioned on the natio run at the start of the thread Edited 07/01/07 01:31 AM by seethisgo
