I think it's there to force as much air through the cooling system as possible.

If the air gets an easy way to get out, ( via the missing cover) a lot will not go through to cooling system. IC, Aircon cooler, Radiator. I did read somewhere that that is the reason why the system is all covered in.

On Sunday I had a track day with the XR Club of QLD at Qld raceway.

It was a 30 degree plus day.I run an oil cooler which helped my oil temps stoping the car going into limp mode but I still had a bit of an issue with water temp.

I run my heater in the car to allow another method of heat disapation.

Even so I still get temps up toward 3/4 after prolonged use ie 5 plus laps.

As soon as I slow down for 1 minute it cools to under 1/2.

Runing the heater even though un comfortable definitly helps.

Cheers Paul

You could close all the vents except for the rear ones, might help the comfort level

Not sure if its a good idea but on the xr6s but on my old EB turbo I had EF thermo fans and wired them ( via the wolf ecu ) to come on together, instead of one main one and one for aircon... maybe this could be worth doing as it worked very well on the EB... I almost cooked it on the dyno a few times befor I did this

the car wouldnt be "overheating" as such..

those temp gauges only run in the vicinity of about 10deg once its upto operating temp. from half to 3/4 would only be 3-4deg.

I do not think so as at 3/4 gauge reading the engine computor turns the a/c off.

To stop the motor from over heating.

This got me thinking so I did a test on a ba I have in the workshop at the moment.

Started the car pluged in my carman scan tool normal temp that is half way between 1/4 and 1/2 on the gauge is 95 degrees temp in the motor,1/2 way is 105 degree engine temp,3/4 gauge reading is 118.5 engine temp.

This temp is what the engine computor is seeing so would be fairly close to right.

So we are see a 23 degree increase in engine cooling system temps which is high to my liking.

Intune has the xr8, not the same but might have had some heating issues that he sorted out... he has some customers on here that can ask, or Im sure he'd know what his XR6t opponents do
