I watch my instant Litres per hour.. When my car starts it sits around 5.0l per hour. I let it warm up untill it gets to around 3.0 litres per hour and also by this time the temp guage has also moved.

I dont care what so called experts say about this. Ive done it with all my cars and will continue to do so. :stupid:

Do you ignore all expert's advice? Sounds like a risky life philosophy... :crybaby:

I prefer to let my car idle for a minute then drive easy till gauge shows at least a 1/4 heat before taking over 3k

ive had cars to 200k without being smoky, I believe this contributes to engine longevity.

EACH TO THERE OWN!

I aslo believe turbos need operating temp to last the distance

If you drive off when it's cold you can feel it trying to surge forward, even when braking.

yeh that annoys me cause in the work car park its speed bumbs galore!

I just sit for 30 seconds.. dont go over 2,000rpm till its @ 1/4 temp on the gauge

seems to get the job done :crybaby:

I let mine warmup for about 5 mins, just have a smoke before I leave before or after work, it usually takes about this long to idle down from 5l/hr down to 2l/hr and the gearbox doesn't seem to like moving out of park at 5l/hr idle

If you want to talk "warming up".

We once worked on a drilling job in the Ukraine where on very cold mornings (lower than -10C) we had to light a little fire under the drill rig's sump to get the oil thin enough to allow the driller to have a go at starting the bloody thing.

Now that's what I call warming up the vehicle first thing in the morning :spank: As for my girl in Perth, drive off normally, nothing silly until operating temp reached on temp guage.

cheers

Peter

It's 5 mins drive to work, 25 min walk. That gives me more time to post on here before work in the morning :crybaby:.

Over Xmas I'll be walking though. We're not allowed to park in the carpark and I aint leaving the T down the main street. :bum:

I live a couple of minutes from work, so my car is just up to operating temp by the time I get there, but I never warm it up before I leave.

Just start and drive, but I never go over 3500rpm until the temp is over 1/4
