I just read Julian Edgar's piece on www.autospeed.com and I agree with him where he says:

"When the engine is cold, don't warm it up by waiting around idling. Instead drive off as soon as the engine has been started, but drive gently until it reaches operating temp."

MAIN ARTICLE

I've always practised this and I dont see any point in idling of a morning, just dont floor it till youve warmed up.

There's a lot of old wives tales going around, and this is another that you can ditch from thy memory banks.

I have always let mine sit for about 30sec then drive it slowly. just get the the oil to the top of the motor

but that is cos I have a manual with a heavy clutch so to drive it I do need to bring the revs up alittle.

but I dont see why ppl sit there for 10mins warming up

I give it a couple of minutes due to the forged pistons. I dont let it build boost until its warmed right up (normally about ten minutes) that usually gives th tyres abit of time to warm up as well... :useless:

At idle, when cold, mine sits at around 1100rpm and only drops to 900rpm when warmer. If you drive off when it's cold you can feel it trying to surge forward, even when braking.

The only problem is I only live approx 5 mins from work and the car never fully warms up.

Well,

I let mine idle for about two mins, only because Im digging around for my wallet, phone, adjusting seat, putting in a CD, clearing throat and then its all systems go :useless:

My T takes about 3 km for the water temp to show normal working temp, the oil temp gauge takes 13 km to 20 km's to show the right working temp.

On start up my rpm's show 1,250 at idle, and once normal temp is reached about 900rpm's.

When I use my T I start and drive away.

I watch my instant Litres per hour.. When my car starts it sits around 5.0l per hour. I let it warm up untill it gets to around 3.0 litres per hour and also by this time the temp guage has also moved.

I dont care what so called experts say about this. Ive done it with all my cars and will continue to do so. :stupid:
