Hi Guys,

I want to change out the factory sub with a After market one I was looking at the Fusion and the JBL. I decieced to go buy the JBL sub since straifield had floor stock and the fusion were a bit of a hassel to get. I went to buy it today and the guy at straifield tried to sell me a aftermarket amp to power the sub he was telling me that the factory amp was only pumping out 20w RMS and it wont even drive the JBL and I will be taking a backwards step. Is this guy just trying to sell me crap I dont really need just to line his pockets on comission or is he genuine.

I am not after massive window and boot rattling DOOF DOOF just wont a nice clean bass without it going POOP POOP once I pass 18 on the dial. I will be also getting the JBL 5x7 GTO 2-ways for the rear as well ( which will run off the amp from the deck fine according to the same bloke at straifield ).

Thanks for your time on this topic Envi_XR8 :pooh:

P.S. the reason I want the 8" sub and not a couple of 12's or 10's in the boot is I need the boot space

Good questions mate, no answers here, but I'll be watch this Post for the info you get should be a good read. :spoton:

What did you pay for the Sub?

What is the power of the stock Amp that drives the Sub?

I can pick up the Sub for $110

as for the stock amp power to the Sub FORD say its 150watt but the guy at striaflied say it more like 20-30w RMS :idunno:

max power and continuous power (RMS) are alwys different, so ford probably claim 150W max but the continuous power will be much lower..

how much were the JBL 5x7's??

Before I installed the new amp I was running 2 15" of the factory amp, it was not very clean but it did the job. Being its only a 8" free air sub you are never going to get huge doof, just put it in if you want more buy the amp later.

I've done exactly the same as you - the JBL GTO 8" sub and the JBL 5 x 7's in the front and back. It's HEAPS better than standard. If you want the sub to perform EVEN better, go to bunnings and buy a plastic square rainwater drain bucket from their plumbing section. It's a tall, square thick plastic bucket that is the perfect size as a sealed enclosure for the sub. Costs $12 I think. Bit of foam on the top edge and screw it to the parcel shelf under the sub.

This is enough to get the rear vision mirror shaking when you turn it up to 26.

If that's not enough, then I suggest ripping the amp out and getting one of the new Sony Xplod's. They sense the high level input and switch on automatically. You can use the stock wiring (although check which colours meet up with which) and you will have heaps more power without much frigging around.

Good luck. Check the other threads on this subject for my install pics.

Quick question for those that have the JBL GTO Sub. I got mine installed last week and I've noticed that the parcel shelf carpet no longer quite reaches to the window edge. Is this normal because the sub is a different size, or should it all be neat and clean like it was before?
