And where did you hear about it first? For me ive always wanted a Turbo car, something about the noise of the turbo kicking in and propelling you forward. Always sort of had my heart on a WRX or an EVO but got sick of 4 cylinder cars and wanted something a bit beefier and with more room. I first read about the XR6Turbo in the Sydney Morning Herald they had an article very small about FOMOCO bringing out a Turbo Falcon never knew it was a six or anything. Even with my parents working at Ford they couldnt tell me anything about it as they hadn't heard about it, must have been some sort of media leak. Next day went into the dealership and asked.. They found out all the info and few days later ordered it. Im very happy with the car.. extremely happy and consider it an excellent purchase and worth every cent! So if your considering buying one do it.. you won't regret it.. :D

When I got it back from the crash repairers, they'd done such a good job, I figured it was the best time to check out my trade-in options.Anyway, did a little shopping around and discovered the Peugeot 206cc coupe convertible. Gorgeous little beast. Hardtop convertible like the Merc SLK, though much better priced. Went through all the motions of test-driving and whatnot, until I took my partner to look at it too. He loved it, problem was: He couldn't fit in it. He's 6'5" and the Peugeot is just too small. He kept hitting his head on the roof!Right. Scratch that option. Grrrr.Anyway, that's Saturday and Monday I decide to go look at more "normal" cars -- Volvo S40, BMW 328i, that kind of thing. I was looking for an upmarket ride, comfortable but fun to drive. My partner had seen an XR6 in a magazine somewhere and kept pestering me to go look at it, but I didn't until I'd gone through all the German options first. However, I walked onto my local Ford dealer's floor, took one look at the XR6 and said, "Man, I could drive that, no problem." -- Two hours later, my XR6 was ordered. My partner STILL can't believe I actually bought a Falcon and neither can I. But, its possibly one of the most comfortable cars I've driven that still packs a punch when I want it too. It has definitely inherited a lot of European styling but retains an Aussie flavour. And, after 4 years of Explorer Goodness, I'm quite glad to be sticking with the Blue Oval for at least another 3 years. Who knew when I moved to Australia I'd become a Ford Man?
HellionXR6T I'm Back!! Thats right, long over due! :) Lifetime Members 4,348 Member For: 22y 1m 28d Gender: Male Location: West Brisbane Posted 10/12/02 12:00 AM Share Posted 10/12/02 12:00 AM Hmmm,Well every car I have had has been a ford, doesn't look like that is going to change for a while. First beast was a Monza Red 78 XC GS Hardtop, 4.1 crossflow but the induction, lets just say I almost needed a trailer as a fuel tank, this thing was a beast. Had it for years. Then started working out at Ipswich and a full tank only lasting 2.5 return trips was getting a little too much.Sold her to a friend of a mate that has since turned it into a "Street Machine" quality car. #%!, 650 Holley, Genie headers, top loader, the worx, it's NICE :D Sorry I sold it...lol.Next car was the start of the XR addiction `94 ED XR6. Polynesian Green, custom body kit, nice looking machine. Reasonable price, 60,000 on the clock, bought it from Byrne Ford (A dealer I wouldn't touch as long as my ass points to the ground, sales team were great, service...BWAHAHAHA, hmmm!!!). Ran this thing into the ground, wife had a Ford laser, then a Ford Festiva. New house, 2 x loan repayments, 2 lots of rego...etc, etc, blah, blah. Blown a head gasket, fixed it and realized the car needed way too much work done to it to keep it, rego was due on both cars so we said "Ahh stuff it".We only needed one car so we bought our 1st brand spanking new car. The AU III VCT. Never 100% happy with it as the AU shape is too bubbly for my taste. The sII & sIIII XR range are the only cars that look any good, hated the standard shape woth the "bug" eyes at the front, yuk!! Still it was nicer to drive than an S series Late model camira or a Magna VR-X. XR VCT it was.Who was to know they would bring out the nicest Falcon ever. I was hoping they would create a merge between an AU and an EL Falcon. They did just that. Had to have one. Traded in the AU3 XR6 VCT and have refinanced our homeloan so we can pay out the balloon payment. We are actually $60-$70 better off each fortnight so it's all good.Next car = BA XR6, wohooo. :D Hence the name "ed-au-ba-xr6" I know, not original but I didn't think I'd be on this site at all, let alone posting more than one or to comments.Just wish the bl**dy thing would hurry up. Little annoyed that they gave us the plexis grey interior instead of the phantom and it's taken Ford soo long to slot us into another build date. We should be driving our new XR6 NOW damnitt!!!! Cannot wait.

cvanxr Member 502 Member For: 22y 1m 21d Location: Country NSW Posted 10/12/02 01:38 AM Share Posted 10/12/02 01:38 AM I currently have a AU II XR6HP for my work car. I started thinking about getting a VCT as an upgrade earlier in the year. When I spoke to my dealer he said to wait. New model coming, big changes etc. As I was going to get a VCT the Turbo became my prefered option. And what an option! The rest is history I can't wait for my order to show up. :D

That moved the purchase plan forward by quite a bit.Now I want to ring the guy up and thank him for hitting me!!!
Guest DZ. Guests Posted 10/12/02 02:06 AM Share Posted 10/12/02 02:06 AM Well, haven't ordered yet but I will. Reason I've chosen the XR6T was because I was looking for a sub second 7 car with good handling - looks are usually a secondary consideration in my choice of car. I also need something to haul the family around in so it has to be large. I'm not a V8 fan because of fuel consumption which ruled out XR8s and SSs. Expensive Daewoo and Toyota don't have a sub second 6 cylinder car leaving a Ralliart Magna and the XR6T.On the basis of power, performance, handling (RWD vs FWD makes for a better balanced chasis), looks (both internal and external), resale values, practicality (Magna doesn't have a split fold rear seat and less leg room in the back), and of course price, the Falcon wins hands down. The fact that the Falcon is an inline 6 (my preference for engine configurations) with a turbo bolted on is an added bonus. By the time I get around to ordering the Falcon I will have probably seen the new Magna but I've noticed they're running across a number of engineering issues to get a high powered AWD car out and they can't guarantee that there will be an AWD car in 2005. Lets face it, they wanted the sale. They said that the BA series would be way, way more expensive ad out of our price range, umm, it's cheaper.............pissed!! Plus who was to know the body shape would improve so much. I was thinking the worst and was on a negative wavelenth style of thinking "well, the AU isn't the greatest shape, what are they going to come out with from this point onwards, a full bubble car, should get one while they look reasonably OK".XR6 turbo is not that much more than the AU III VCT but in the situation we are in now, we cannot afford it, we could but it would be seriously stretching things. I've begged to get one...lol. Grovel...grovel to the wife but she makes me see sense. As it is, with the standard model, we are saving $70.00 a fortnight and when you are not on a Kings randsome, every bit helps. Plus there is the extra insurance, etc... If we had of waited, it would be no drama what so ever. Buying a bomb to last us a year would have been great but who was to know the BA would kick so much ass in comparison to previous models?BA XR6 it is I don't mind though, hell it's still one hell of a car and besides, I know a few people that will jump at the opportunity to help me turn the beast into the ultimate ball tearer, increase 182 to God knows what, turbo, supercharged, skies the limit. Mmm...lol. The future will be fast and dangerous. Anyway. I'll shut up now, give someone a chance to say something, quiet day at work....lol. type, type, type.......bs, bs, bs, blah, blah, blah. I considered myself a Ford man until the AU when I went to the VT Holden. I was a convert and planned purchasing a VX SS earlier this year. The pending release of the VY and the BA made me hold off even though the VX runout prices appeared good. Once I saw the VY and the BA, I came home to Ford on that point alone. Then comparing bang for buck the BA turbo was so far ahead IMO that the choice was easy......
Guest Phantom Guests Posted 10/12/02 04:02 AM Share Posted 10/12/02 04:02 AM Time had come to get rid of the EL this year and I had a hunch that something good was coming so I waited for the BA.The early reviews for the XR6T were so good I decided why wait for the XR8 next year.No doubt the XR8 will be awesome but I am happy with what I've got.A mate of mine that owns a $100K BMW was very impressed with the my $50K XR6T after going for a spin on the weekend.
