I hate it how every one tells young drivers YOU WILL STACK IT

I agree... 2 cars, 4 years still yet to have a crash... sure it can/will happen to anybody but not just young drivers

It doesnt take a powerful car for someone to kill themselves... Its only stupid people not just 'P' platers... If he is gonna do stupid things behind the wheel doesnt matter if hes in a corolla or a T either way hes gonna get hurt... If he buys a corolla as others have suggested he most likely will modd it up... and hurt himself and or others 'testing' out how much faster the pod filter made his corolla go

just my 2 cents... Mike

Agfreed, but the issue is having the experience to know what to do when things go pear shaped.

The reason why P platers are being attacked is that's because it starts there. There are plenty of full licence drivers who are in the same boat, because they've never been taught, and their experience has been of moderate speeds with no hairy situations. I'm for proper education of all drivers, which includes the need to pass certain graded tests to make it to the next tier. That way younger drivers can still get whatever car they want, but they'll be qualified to use it.

Kinda like passing Grand Turismo 4 tests :spoton:

That's it. You don't see any first time racers jump straight into V8 Supercars.

get a xr6t, you "will" stack it..? looks like we've got a few fortune-tellers in the house.

this has already gone off topic. the thread started with someone asking about an n/a xr6, and is now at the "buy a corola" stage.

We've got an na xr6 in the family. Dumped, rims, leather etc. I can say that its been cared for more than I have, and has been driven reasonably sensibly. My bro got it when he was 18, and is on his full licence now, and hasnt been in a single accident.

I can honestly recomend you an n/a xr6 as a first car, but it all comes down to you as a driver. If you are responsible enough to drive with caution, then buy whatever car you want, because accidents dont just happen in "fast" cars.

if you cant drive a T legally, don't. simple as that. no use getting one and then when you get busted you wont be able to drive it anymore. I was lucky I got my licence before the changes, but I dont think its worth it to get something you cant legally drive. you'll always be watching out for cops etc etc, which would probably distract you from driving properly. not worth the risk in my opinion, though the T is an excellent car. im 18 and ive had one for about 10 months now

He isn't asking about a T. In the original post he says he's interested in an n/a.

Yeah but a few ppl are saying go the T, go all out, you wont be dissapointed and forget about what we all say. So we have been talking him out of both.

If you want an XR6, go out and get one. They are a safe and mostly reliable car.In a crash I Know which car I would prefer to be in and its not a carola.

Well I am only 19 and have a T.

I had a pissy 1.6l Accent as my first car cos my parents wouldnt let me have a V8! I hated my car the whole time I had it and recently went and got the T.  I was also still on my P's when I got the T and I never had a problem with the cops.

I say get a T if that's what you want.  Just be aware of the cars potential and dont drive like a lunitic!

P plate drivers are restriced in some states to N/A cars and smaller motors and we think his from one of those states.

Well I'm from Victoria so yeah. I'm pretty sure (last time I checked) that that XR6T was on the restricted vehicles list and the n/a XR6 was not. I've never actually considered the XR6T as 1) It's illegal and 2) they're usually more expensive 3) don't really want a turbo car for my first car, might sound stupid but I'd rather drive a n/a car for my first car as people always go on about how young drivers underestimate the speed of their car etc. etc.

Having said that, I'm interested in the XR6 mainly because its a good looking car and the fact that right now, I feel second hand XR6s are good value for money (though im not sure how well they hold value). I'm not interested in how fast the car will go and what not, as I'm not the type of person to go around flooring it against every R33 who wants to drag. I'm completely opposite, though I have not been driving for long, I drive like any other 'normal' driver and never speed/race to show off etc. Which is another reason why im not too interested in the XR6T

I thought picking a first car would be easy lol :nyyaah:
