I had a pissy 1.6l Accent as my first car cos my parents wouldnt let me have a V8! I hated my car the whole time I had it and recently went and got the T. I was also still on my P's when I got the T and I never had a problem with the cops.I say get a T if that's what you want. Just be aware of the cars potential and dont drive like a lunitic! Its only stupid people not just 'P' platers... If he is gonna do stupid things behind the wheel doesnt matter if hes in a corolla or a T either way hes gonna get hurt... If he buys a corolla as others have suggested he most likely will modd it up... and hurt himself and or others 'testing' out how much faster the pod filter made his corolla gojust my 2 cents... Mike←Agfreed, but the issue is having the experience to know what to do when things go pear shaped. The reason why P platers are being attacked is that's because it starts there. There are plenty of full licence drivers who are in the same boat, because they've never been taught, and their experience has been of moderate speeds with no hairy situations. I'm for proper education of all drivers, which includes the need to pass certain graded tests to make it to the next tier. That way younger drivers can still get whatever car they want, but they'll be qualified to use it.

Taking your missus out will cost you a fortune in gas if you can afford it after you pay your finance. Then WHEN you crash it, and you will, you wont be able to fix it as your insurace WILL find a way not to pay. You can get quite quick 1600's now that handle just as well and do stop better. And they are a LOT cheaper to run and maintain.Up to you, that is just my opinion.

(this applies to any parents out there)buy a NEWISH car, doesnt have to be brand spanker but something with decent structure in the event of an accident... I would say anything that has an airbag is a good start, as airbags have not been around that longbuying a safe low power small car is NOT the solution to p-platers killing themself's I had a rather ashthmatic 1.8L FWD focus before the T and I sometimes miss that car.. straight line it was nothing compared to the T (especially an edited T) but there is no hope in hell that I would or could get the T to fly thrue roundabouts (you know those small tight little ones) at 80kph yet the focus would swish in and swish out without lifting my foot of the throtle... the only difference power really makes is how long you leave your foot on the throtle... you will still break the speed limit it will just take you longer.the XR6 (na) is a great car.. and I would recomend it no problem as a first car so long as you can afford to maintain it. Many say yes but its RWD its big its heavy its powerfull that's all bullsh*t the reallity is that RWD teaches you something that you dont learn in FWD/AWD cars and that is RESPECT you push a RWD (especially with LSD) into a corner to hard and it just wont understeer out it will snap and bite you on the arse and you will learn very quickly (I did) not to do that again.lower the car aswell and put low profile tyres, nothing makes speedhumps, roundabouts and gutters more intimidating then the fear of scratching your wheels and the low profile tyres.. well they teach you to pay attention, because sooner or latter you will learn to dodge potholes.
