Is It Worth A New Exhaust?

I'm just wondering if it's worth bothering with a new exhaust for a stock T? I went to the local exhaust centre and he's quoted me $320 for a 3" system from the cat back with twin tips. I need to get a new rear muffler anyway (as the current one is sounding hollow). The sound emitting from the current dead muffler is horn and the new exhaust will give me a similiar, if not a little louder, sound with little to no increase in kw's.

Can anyone suggest an affordable system that is grunty and performance based without inside cabin drone? An edit is on the cards for perhaps 12 months down the track so the system would need to compliment the edit when it's finally done (obviously a hi flo cat and dump pipe would need to be added when the edit is done).

Cheers :yikes:

Yes 3 inch is to small.

I beleive redback do a good system.

We have a 3.5 inch turbo back system on our car with 2 hand made mufflers and it is nice in side of the car.

I would say a 3 inch system will flow considerably less than the standard twin 2.25 system.

You would be suprised, allthough the total internal volume of a twin 2.25 inch exhaust is bigger than 3 inches, a 3 inch single system you get the benefit of less external surface area, hence less heat lossed due to transfer, therefore faster exhaust gas flowrates.

However in saying that, if you are going to the trouble and effort of doing an exhaust you might aswell do it right the first time and go the 3.5 inch single system :omg:

Agreed I'm in for a 3.5" next week custom dump, high flow cat etc was told minimum of this size by tuner but this will probably set you back over grand

I would save your money and just the the center muffler removal trick.

This will give you the desired sound.

The stock system is good for 300rwkw.

Keep the system maby remove the centre muffler. Get high flow cat and EDIT

Thinking of doing this with mine. Some issues with high flow cat and the sensor that runs near it. Apparently it can cause the check engine light to come on, on the dash. I think you have to start somewhere and what your planning on doing is a good start. I still think you need swaybars first up. Was quite noticable the other night.

So just a straight through system? I'd still need to get the rear muffler replaced though..

I'm at odds what to do. Can anyone list the pros and cons of both a straight through system (centre muff removed) vs twin dogs replacing the centre muff..
