I reckon that track makes for pretty boring TV - even with the F1's you can't see any crowds there. Even at the Island or the Creek you can see people near the track!

True, but why would the F1 or our cars hold a race there if it did not mean money. Somewhere Somehow, there is money to be had.

I rekon, it is subsudised, to promote tourism, in the future.

V8 Supercars are not F1's. There is precious little opportunity to make money outside the areas where Falcs and Commodores are sold.

Since HSVs are exported to Bahrain and Falcons aren't I reckon its merely advertising for the General.

Why would they hold a race in China?

To sell merchandise is the answer, China holds what a third of the worlds population. That is alot of merchandise, if they can make it cool.

Still to work out the exact reason for the Bahrain, but even at my most cynical, I cannot conclude it is all a GMH advertising plot.

The China race was also used by Expensive Daewoo to advertise. Some of the Commodores were painted up as Buiks then.

With the China race, the Chinese govt paid a bundle to have the race there so I'm sure it was the same case with Bahrain. With China, all team expenses were paid for (and some). TV ratings in China and Bahrain for the V8s is normally good, but probably not enough appeal for them to watch live.

I thought the race was pretty dull, too many stupid take-outs and not enough close racing up the front. Even Lownds said during the 2nd race, "This must be pretty boring to watch." :w00t2:

Granted it was a boring race to watch, and the empty stands left the race with little atmosphere. Even the around town shots were boring. But there are world class race tracks popping up in the middle east, Qatar has one as well.

Time will tell.
