Has anyone been advised, as I have been, that after 50k rotor machining is no longer a warranty issue ? Vehicle in question is XRT Dec 2004, auto, 60k on odometer.

Much as I like the car, the brakes have been looked at numerous times re issues of shudder etc. As it's my company car, I have ALL of the relevant service history receipts, and will be collating those.

Does anyone know the number of customer service, as I will be following up on this one.

As an aside, how many dealerships have in house facililties for rotor grind in of the premium rotors ? If my receipts show machining, should I read this as machining or grind in ?

cheers

Steve

Was recently told that Ford wouldnt replace my rotors until they had been machined 3 times, but they did promise to replace them.

I thought it was 3 times. I must have got lucky.

BA MkI auto with 79,000km and front discs machined once already (at 50,000km?) due to shudder (after they drove it hard at a service, mind you). Complained again of shudder at 79,000km (brakes not used hard at all).

They measured and said they were under thickness and that discs would be replaced under warranty, although I had to pay for new pads (which was fair enough as they were mostly worn anyway, being the original set).

Now have shocking brake dust issue - more dust accumulated on front wheels in one week with new pads/discs than in 6-months with the old set!

13 FORD

But yeah 50k and that's it for brakes. Your premo's are shuddering? Sounds like they aren't fitted properly, or you dont really have premium brakes!

Had my discs replaced at 66K after 3 machinings and now at 86K there is no sign of brake shudder. That's where the good news ends.

At the 75K service I complained of excessive brake dust (front alloys are black a week after washing them) and the most irritating high pitched squeal that had been present since the disc/pad changeout to stop the shudder. Answer? "Yeah, its a compromise".

I will give 13 FORD a very polite phone call prior to my 90K service and ask why I should pay any labour costs associated with work on my brakes when they have been a joke and by their own admission "compromised" from day 1. Out of warranty now so I'm pushing  up a hill but this is rubbish. Easily the most disappointing aspect of the car.

Once these squealers are done I'll be going after market. Ford can stick their brakes and anyone who thinks I should have forked out 3 grand for premiums to avoid this issue must have cash to flush away. Sure the standards are average in terms of performance but with the driving I do, they are sufficient. All I ask for is that they perform as intended without bloody shudder or dust or squeals.

Keep pushing them even if you are past 50K.
