Approx 6 months ago, I made a custom made gauge pod for my R33 Nissan Skyline and since then, I have had queries from many other car enthusiasts wondering whether I can do one for their car as well. Over the past few months, I have started designing and fabricating fibreglass single gauge pods for the Nissan (Skyline, 180SX/Silvia/300ZX) series of cars. See http://people.aapt.net.au/~mearcat/Pod for some pics of the current designs that fit up to a 60mm gauge (note that these are not the final colours). I am also working on pod designs for the Mazda3 MPS after one of my friends requested I make one for his car as well.

I was wondering whether anybody would be interested if I made a similar design for the BA-BF Falcons (XR6/XR6T etc).

The way I work is that I loan a car over an entire weekend where it is stored in my garage next to my highly modified R33 Skyline and use it shape the pod design with. The car is NEVER driven, not pulled apart at any point and vacuumed/cleaned whn I am finished to remove any dust that may get into the car. I have already loaned multiple cars from Autoworx in Wangara (Perth-based Japanese car importers) over the last couple of weekends and I would freely invite anyone to contact the proprieter of Autoworx (Paul Hewitt) in Wangara for a reference on how well I looked after his cars. I can also provide names of 4 other people who I have loaned cars from as a reference.

At 31 years old and a business person, I'm not just a young 'hoon' and I regard myself as a very professional person to deal with and take a lot of respect for others and their property.

If you are interested (no spams please), located in Perth and willing to loan your car, please PM or email me for more information. I am prepared to offer a FREE gauge pod when they are finished or monetary compensation for the use of your car.

Otherwise I would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in purchasing a "MEARCAT" gauge pod. I need ~10 people interested to make a small batch of them viable. Cost will be ~$80

Regards,

Alan Mears

I would be interested I this.

But I would prefer to have them located where the FPV gauges are.

The current holders avalable are not big enough

Not big enough? what you want to mount a 5inch tacho in the centre do you

urslow,

Based on the cost of the Nissan pods I have done, the final price for a single gauge pod will be ~$80 which includes undercoat and paint (colour which closely matches the dash).

As for legality issues, because the pods I have designed so far all sit at the base of the A-pillar, visibility will affected but a minimal amount. The pillar based pods that the police seem have the issues with are those that mount 1/3-1/2 way up the A-pillar itself. You know, the ones that you can smack your head on in an accident! :hohum:

I won't know what the final look of the pod will be like until I actually get a car and mull over a design.

Do the current ones only hold up 52mm gauges or something?

Umm no. The holders I have seen only hold the tiny gauses. that's why mine is just screwed in, for now. I would like a proper pod just thought they were all really small

I would be very interested in one. I've got a 2 1/16 gauge sitting around that needs a home.

There's another mob that does them to suit the XR6T, but only for 2 inch size (their own gauges are 2 inch). I want one to suit the common 2 1/6 size.

For 80 bucks put me down for one.
