We used a clay bar on a brand new toyota yaris that had to be delivered to a customer that day and when they were getting it ready they found industrial fallout all over it from the nearby construction site. The clay bar did a brilliant job of getting it off though it was a tough job. Just try getting rusty iron filings off white paint...

Anyway, here's a question I havent seen answered, where do you get all these fancy polishes and clay bars? im pretty sure supercheap auto dont stock that big a range...

I used the 3M clay bar, then waxed it afterwards. I used my Instant Detailer spray as the lubricant.

I stuck my hand in a sandwhich bag prior, and ran my hand over the car.... It felt like bloody sandpaper.

After clay baring it its smoth as glass. Even my partners brand new Suzuki Swift felt like a sandpaper.

I cant comment on other types or brands of clay bar. But it certainly worthwhile doing provided you have 10-12 hours spare.

for those claiming its a hard job and your arms kill afterwards, your applying too much presure.

For the clay bar to work effectively, apply as little presusre as possible, and always have some lubrication (quick detailer spray, or some sudsy car wash).

The clay bar is designed to glide over the top surface of the paint, pulling the crud out of the pores of the paint...work a small section of paint at a time, making sure you have it sufficiently wetted. Never use the clay bar on dry paint, nor if you have accidentally dropped it (even on clean concrete), as it will pick up the tiniest grit like sh*t to a blanket, and proceede to scratch the crap out of your car.

I clay my car twice a year, and keep it waxed every second month which helps prevent fall out and debris etching into the paint.

you should follow up with some fine swirl reducer, or polish, or even Meg's Scratch X before waxing for an even better result .

To the person with the black car

I hate the meguiars professional clay bar because it's too stiff

Everyone please remember that any clay bar except an ultra fine one can leave marring in the paintwork regardless of how much lube is used

When I am detailing a car and need to get the clay magic red bar out, the marring is unreal but since I'm machine polishing it, it will all come out

It should by hand as well but it depends on how strong the polish you are using is.

I use the clay bar as soon as my paint begins to feel a little rough, and in all the time I have been using it I have NEVER got a single scratch same clay bar for 2 years now... look after it keep it away from the ground, make sure there is NO DIRT on your car before you start using it, and keep it well lubricated!!!! I use Speed detailer with mine and it works a treat then I follow with a full polish using a meguiars polish applicator and removing the polish with a microfibre polish cloth... results are amazing, ends up feeling and looking like glass.... also the clay bar seems to slowly ease off the orange peel in the paint...
