Posted 24/02/08 02:49 AM Share Posted 24/02/08 02:49 AM We used a clay bar on a brand new toyota yaris that had to be delivered to a customer that day and when they were getting it ready they found industrial fallout all over it from the nearby construction site. The clay bar did a brilliant job of getting it off though it was a tough job. Just try getting rusty iron filings off white paint...Anyway, here's a question I havent seen answered, where do you get all these fancy polishes and clay bars? im pretty sure supercheap auto dont stock that big a range... I used my Instant Detailer spray as the lubricant. I stuck my hand in a sandwhich bag prior, and ran my hand over the car.... It felt like bloody sandpaper. After clay baring it its smoth as glass. Even my partners brand new Suzuki Swift felt like a sandpaper. I cant comment on other types or brands of clay bar. But it certainly worthwhile doing provided you have 10-12 hours spare. Never use the clay bar on dry paint, nor if you have accidentally dropped it (even on clean concrete), as it will pick up the tiniest grit like sh*t to a blanket, and proceede to scratch the crap out of your car.I clay my car twice a year, and keep it waxed every second month which helps prevent fall out and debris etching into the paint.you should follow up with some fine swirl reducer, or polish, or even Meg's Scratch X before waxing for an even better result . I use Speed detailer with mine and it works a treat then I follow with a full polish using a meguiars polish applicator and removing the polish with a microfibre polish cloth... results are amazing, ends up feeling and looking like glass.... also the clay bar seems to slowly ease off the orange peel in the paint...
