Has any one used cleaning clay or clay bars on their cars to clean the paint before polishing.

Yep, did it once, will do it probably every 6 months before a good polish and wax application. It worked really well, but gives the arm a damn good work out! I dont know about difference in brands, but I used the meguiars one with the quick detailer spray and it worked well. You can really tell the difference after doing it as the paint is a mirror finish! Just need to make sure you polish and wax ASAP after the clay bar so it doesnt get any contaminants on the clear coat.

I've used it on my Landcruiser to remove Iron Ore stains etc ingrained into paint. Worked a treat but very hard work. A hard stain to remove though.

Wish I'd thought of it last month for my T as I just polished the thing :crybaby: .

Wouldn't hesitate to use it again but would probably be a bit more careful on this girl than the 80 Series.

Yep have to agree. I also have used the meguires clay bar and quick detailer and the result was excellent.

Dont rub too hard and let the clay bar do most of the work. Your arms will get tired but the end result will be all worth it. It glides very easy over the quick detailer and you will feel when you need to spray more on by the resistance it creates. Make sure you also massage the clay bar in regular intervals as you will notice all the contaminents being built up on the clay bar.

Highly recommended

Cheers

Yep you need to basically fold it in half every now and then, if you get too many contaminants caught in the clay it could end up scratching the clear coat... if the clay bar gets any grains of sand in it make sure you pick them out first! The other stuff you pick up will be stuck in the clay and when you fold it in half you have a completely clean face to use. You lose track of how many times you fold it in half.
