Gday,

I recently bought my 03 BA XR6T ute in blueprint, 23k's on the clock and still under warranty, very happy with it all round.

And im even happy with the standard stereo setup, including speakers but I have read other posts saying that you can change the rear speakers to 6 x 9's without too much trouble.

Is the hole for the 5 x 7's big enough to hold 6 x 9's or do you need to do some metal work to get them to fit? and is it really any better than the standard sound? which is pretty good, I wont be using an amp, just upgrading the speakers, I want to be able to hear the music and dont really give a crap if everybody else can hear it or not.

and whats the difference between the premium sound in the ute and the normal sound? does the premium sound pack CD play mp3's? coz I dont think mine does and that would be great.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wes Tarbuck

My 6 x 9's slotted in without any problems, and you will notice the quality of good speakers. MP3's can't be played on any BA head units.

The rear speaker slot is not part of the panel, but just a plate which the speakers are attached to and then bolted to the car. Its a really piss poor way of mounting a speaker. I would be making a panel out of wood which would complely cover the hole ( you will know what I am talking about if you pull the back of the car apart) :nyyaah:

I am thinking of doing a speaker upgrade in the ute aswell.

Thinking of putting Kenwood 7x10's in the rear. Not sure of the model of speakers yet. But the factory ones are starting to get a crackle through them.

guys guys

change the splits and add an amp if you want quality.

the rears are good for filling in the sound around you, the position of the tweeters is very good and with decent splits you can really enjoy the sound.

Id recommend MB QUARTS there is a few different types for different wallets. ive got the mid spec, a cost of $700

Dont go 7X10's. I was contemplating this as my brother has a kenwood pair that sounded good. I was talked out of it by my audio guy thankfully. I then wanted to put an 8' sub in the rear but talked out of that aswell. Went with replacement 5x7 alpine in the doors, 10' sub. was running off the 1 amp but now have an amp for each and it cranks great! No need for rear fill really in a ute imo.
