Hey, Ive got my eye on a car and Its a bit of a drive from where I live and to far from my local mechanic to take a look and give it the ok.... Does anyone know any places that do on site pre purchase inspections that u have used or recommend, besides RACV, as they only do inspections through the week and not on weekends as this is the only time I can get it done????

Any help on this would be great

cheers

I think just doing a little research on the web, will give you a better idea what to look for than paying someone to do a half arsed job checking a car for you.

I did the inspections on cars for my brother and old man - simple stuff is all that is required. Heat it up take it for a drive check for a smoky exhaust, does it ping under load?, evidence of overheating?, check condition of gaskets, climb underneath see if anything is bent or missing a rubber cover....there's not much else you need to check.

It's amazing how obvious most car problems are - like radiator overflow bottles that are melted, oil seeping out the head gasket etc...

racq in queensland did an inspection on one of my cars and came up with a list of problems and to be honest the problems where never really a problem.

they are thourgh and list everything but it can make the car look like its got a lot of problems.

if you know what they are talking about then it shouldnt be a problem

I've had a Pre Purchase inspection on my last few cars.

Main reason is for that tiny bit of money (relative to the cost of the car) it is good to get a second opinion and I always get a compression test done by them too. Some of them offer a waranty for major component failure too (from memory)

Wheh I got my T I rang RACV and they wouldn't do an on-site inspection because of the type of car it is. They needed it for an entire day and it has to be taken to one of ther centres.:sick:

The main reason I was inquring with them was because I was hours from the car

Thanks for all the comments guys, yeah Ive got a fair idea what to look for basic things like brakes, oil leaks etc but wanting someone that's got some expertise in this field so thus the reason for getting someone to take a look at it.... Ive found a company that do on site inspections on weekends stateroads dont know what they are like but are charging me $149 for a complete inspection, compression test paint measurement road test etc, so see how that comes up!!!! Also if there is any of U guys that are leasing cars or in this line of work, can u sell a car that is still under lease with finance still owing on it????? If so how do u go about buying a car like this, do I pay out his remaining loan and pay the remaining amount we agreed on the price of the car?????? hope this is not confusing and makes scene!!!!

cheers

With a leasecar at the end of the lease term there is a residual value - to sell the car you must first buy it with your $$$ then sell it to whoever. (If you are trading in you want have to buy with your $$ the dealer will give you a cheque for the difference).

If the lease hasn't finished yet you have to contact the lease company and ask them for the payout figure - then as above you can buy it.
