Depends on how much you can do - It is around 200 - 220 kms from Port Campbell to Torquay - driving time is typically between 3 and 5 hours dependant on speed and traffic + stops.

The bus tours from melbourne certainly do this in a day return. Really depends on what you want to do!

Some key highlights that you should do are:

Most spectacular scenery like the 12 (7?) apostles are around Port Campbell. There are helecopter rides available - not sure on cost - but supposed to be very good (not done my self)

I do quite like the otways tree top walk - takes about 1 - 2 hours easy walking - some of which is on walkways build up under the tree canopy. about 50kms the Melbourne side of Port Campbell, you will come to Lavers Hill. To stay on the Ocean Rd you would turn right at Lavers Hill if coming from Port Campbell. To get to the otways treetop walk, just keep going straight turn off is approximately 20km past the Ocean Rd intersection and is well sign marked.

Back to the Ocean Rd - the stretch between Lavers and Apollo bay is my favourite bit to drive/ride - particularly to ride. The river flat in Glen aire is F#$kn awesome, and the otways is pretty and a great peice of road as well - road surface is not as good in otways as on river flat but no issues in the T!

There are a number of walks through the Otways, and some small waterfalls etc if you like. There is also the cape otways lighthouse - but it has been years since I have been there. Local tourist info might be able to help more - probably in apollo bay.

There are some nice B&B's in apollo bay and surrounds if you wanted to stop a night - for me it is a 1 day tricp - but a long day - or 2 fairly relaxed days.

From apollo bay back to melbourne I rarely stop - although there are some spots to stop and check out the scenery and take a snap.

If you want to make more of the trip back to Melbourne (from torquay to Melb is super boring), go to queenscliff instead - pay the buck and catch the ferry to sorento. On the Mornington peninsular there are some great wineries, visit arthurs seat, some good antique stores if this is your thing, and cruise into Melbourne via the SE suburbs...

If you have the time - perhaps spend 1 night on the Ocean road - apollo bay or Lorne - then catch a late morning ferry to the peninsular, have lunch somewhere like dromana estate winery, and a look around the peninsular before heading into town....

Good luck!!!! :nono:

cheers,

Ben.
