Last paragraph of WRX v XR6T comparison.

"Both go extremely hard and from a performance point of view are pretty easy to live with, especially when you look at what Subaru has done with the WRX to make it more tractable and quicker. But then, the turbine-like grunt of the XR6 is addictive and hard to go past. Given its almost as quick as the WRX, the XR6 must win on sheer value for money."
0-400m

XR6T 14.23 @ 164.9km/h

WRX 14.01 @ 159.1km/h

0-100

XR6T 5.91

WRX 5.81

"The shift from 2nd to 3rd, however, is slow in the XR6 so the 0-400 metre time suffers."

Found this over at FF, may have to go out and get the new motor magazine this morning... :D

Guys:

Having owned a WRX I can say they are very good. Where they are not good is in interior room, insurance and maintenence. The 50,000 service cost me $900.... and that's no warranty work just service. Its hard on tyres and brake pads.

They are fantasitc handlers and a well driven one will get away from the Falcon particualry in the wet.

On the other hand you have to spend a fair amount on them to perform better and its the STi that's the pick of the litter.

Because of STi price its hard to beat the Falcon. I hear rumblings form rally mates that the car could be eligible for the Aussie car class in the Australain Rally Championship - that would give the guys in the VT v8's sometihng to think about.........

Steve Winwood from SA used to run a XR6 and won the championship in it - scared himeself a few times too! They can get edgey at 185 KMH in the bush....

regards

Dallas

XR6T Manual - still iron ore at this stage........

Yeah WRX's and STi's cost a bomb to run, insurance costs and depreciation really hurt. HOWEVER I'm getting lots of good laughs out of the whole "Performance Bargain Of The Century" theme going on in the motoring media over the XR6T. As far as I can tell, the only thing "cheap" about the XR6T is the insurance cost. To put an XR6T auto on the road with business rego, decent sound, decent brakes and 18" rims is a $55K proposition. That's heading towards STi money....

Don't get me wrong, I like the XR6T and after the test drive I'd trade my 02 STi on one in a heartbeat if I could get enough money for it. It's not as quick but it's got loads of space, decent grunt, lots of kit, can be had as an auto and it looks wicked. Sold. But, a stock Rex is $45K on the road. $10K cheaper than an XR6T with equivalent go and stop, and they are natural enemies that will be put head to head in comparos for years to come.....

Perspective is a marvellous thing, and as usual the local motoring press have a severe lack of it :D

Cheers,

Paul.

The lack of room and insurance was my main concern in not getting a WRX i had always wanted one but when in Sydney they wanted $6500 a year for insurance for 25yr old that made the answer No Way in my mind. Also the lack of room was a big issue.. I liked the room in the AU Falcon not squashy at all. So that's one of the reasons behind me getting an XR6T.
