I cant be bothered reading this whole thread but just to let you guys know, I work for a ford dealer, and last week we had a BF turbo come in with a massive engine let go ( threw a rod, had fist sized wholes in the block and sump) we had one of the Ford guys come down with his little gadget, which isnt a wds/pds or IDS ... but it can read PCM history which showed us that this PCM had been Flashed 3 times, none of which had been done at a dealer, since my dealer was the only one to service this car, also the car had been in the previous week with a monza cooler fitted (which amazingly had disappered when it came in on the tow truck).... Just thought id let you guys know, although im not clear if this can be done on BAs as I didnt ask....

Thanks for your post.

It would be interesting to find being the job your in and all if it can be found in the BA?

Did it tell you any other information other than how many times it has been flashed?

I still fail to see why a after market cooler would make a difference anyway. I the main reason you get more power from it is it coolers the turbo better. This has to be a good thing, surly.

I spose any excuse for Ford to get out of it.

An other interesting thought I have is, there still would not be enough evidence in court if he was to pursue and deny the claim that he flashed it. Who's knows what happened when it was built or what the apprentice did when he was working on it and flashing it.

3 flashes could be done by anyone and doesn't mean it was a tuner. We all know it probably was but that only a guess and can't be a legal YES.

Plus does a tuner directly relay to his engine issues. So they must be saying that if he had a standard tune of around 30kw less he wouldn't have had issues. What a crock.

that's why you play you pay sounds good in theory but when you have bought the car with warranty which doesn't come free. You want what is fair and reasonable not them try anything to get out of it.

Any thoughts.

I dont have alot of info on the tool used to read it as I dont have access to it ( big wig from Ford came down to inspect it)

As far as the cooler goes, the issue was more with that fact that he reffited the factory cooler (roughly I might add) before towing it in. Also has alot to do with the attitude of the owner, he was very defensive and dishonest.... your more likely to be looked after if your just straight down the line and leave out the BS

I'd suspect the failure came as a result of a poor generic tune (possible pinging) and a good old fasioned flogging, id assume the 3 tunes that were picked up were possibly 1. 8psi 2. 10psi BANG!!! 3. F*CK better flash it back to factory and tow it to the dealer..... as we all know these engines can handle massive power when tuned CORRECTLY.

HAHA. This tread almost wants me to try it just so we know one way or the other..

Ive given the proof, do with it what you like.... personally when I piss off the xr8 and get into a BF turbo first thing ill do it get it edited,... but I shouldnt have a problem with warranty claims, since ill be the tech working on it :spoton:
