There are ways of detecting if a BA or BF has been edited. When you flash your car, the box will read the code in your pcm to the "f" position of the box.. Lets just say your catch code is A3LA.. If you have had your car services numerious times, you would have no doubt put the "F" code back into your PCM pre-service.

Now if Ford flash your car with say, A3LC, or A3LD, when you take ownership of the car again, you are no doubt going to over-write that with your "modified tune".

Think about what you have just done. When you revert your tune back to the "F" program again, you are going to end up with your original A3LA back on your pcm again.

The Capa Flash box does not read the entire pcm back to F every time, it only compares the VIN with the PCM, and then uploads your requested tune.

IF ford investigate by plugging their WDS back into your car, and see strategy A3LA on their screen, yet they see on a previous service, they upgraded your pcm to A3LD .. it will ring alarm bells.

Quite Simple really.

Most sensible owners don't take their cars back to Ford for servicing.

I fully understand that if I break something due to mods then it's not Ford's problem, but I have heard and experienced all too much the issue of Ford using the slightest excuse to void waranties, most often not related.

Hiding mods from Ford just saves you the hastles of going through some pencil pusher voiding the waranty on a poorly fitted sunvisor because the car is lowered. I've had waranty hastles with previous cars because I wasn't running the factory mags and they blamed a dash rattle (that was there before the mags were fitted) was supposedly due to the harsher ride generated from the mags.

If your honest (and most people are) then you should trust yourself to make the correct claims.

So far, the only explanations we've seen for people getting caught is that their cars were reflashed during a Ford service and they flashed the old codes back in after. I've also been told that the only other way to detect is there may be a date code left each time the computer is accessed. If your car goes in for warranty work on Friday and it's last date code is Thursday then something will look a little strange.

A friend of mine today got his car serviced and has had an ongoing problem with his oil consumption, the service department put a logger onto the ford ecu and a code came up that is no verified by ford. and once his car came out of service, had a BIG FAT STICKER ON WINDSCREEN saying warranty has been voided.

 yeah right! a fat yellow sticker?

Funny with this topic how no one can actually come up with proof, only hear say or what they heard and a bit of whats dodgy and whats not to boot.

Maybe one day we will get a ford mecha or someone that can answer this question for the whole MOD community and finally put this question to rest.

ONE DAY.

Till then lets keep talking about band camp.

I seem to recall a very important issue with the EDIT.

If you have an edit tune in the car ( NOT the F factory tune), and dealer reflashes the ECU, you will render your edit box useless. You will <span style='color:yellow'>NOT</span> be able to load your tunes, unless the box is sent back to SCT for a clear of the car's ID.

tom.

BS mate. Happened to me. Hooked up the CAPA box and reflashed my good tune back in and all is well again.

As for legalities of Ford knocking back your warranty, it is like a game of poker with a lot of bluffing involved. But seriously who has the time and money to pursue the matter in court? Ford have much deeper pockets than most of us here and can afford the time and money.

If you play you pay. If you can't afford to pay, then don't play.
