I read in the newspaper the other day that the mines in general in australia are going to increase their staff 150% over the next 12 months, we export more minerals than just about any other country, im under the impression that if you move to ANY mining town, weather it be perth, kalgoorlie, kingaroy, or wherever and start applying you will get a job pretty quick.

Look at the real estate at the moment, Perth is the place to buy, big things are happening there because of the mining and our exports to china, I would take a couple of days off, photocopy my resume a thousand times and go from place to place at a town you wouldnt mind working in.

I really dont think you would be out of work too long, while your waiting why not go get your HR licence, so you can drive tippers or whatever licence they need.

I was also a former coles myer employee and I can honestly say one of the most stressfull jobs I have ever had, happily self employed now.

perth is the place to come if you want that kind of money on the mines..

pity the house price is f*cked..

its not worth buying a place here at the moment, these prices arent sustainable imho..

Thanks for agreeing with me.....if you dont do physical labour or you don't have a uni degree most people think that you are livin stress free.

Any way thought I would give you an update on how the employment situation is going.....

Since leaving coles myer I have been still doing bar work on the weekends and doing brickies labouring and landscaping for a bloke that I know so the bills have been covered (even put the T in for its first service today since I've had it)($400 what!!) Last few weeks have been awsome.....even had a couple of days off.

Anyway got work coming out of my :smilielol: now. Can start in 1 week at a local Aluminium smelter driving forklifts - pay $1200 aweek(without o/t) on arotating roster that will see me working seven days out of fourteen!!!!

Contracting company has said they will put me on as a labourer with a chance to move into driving excavators or dump trucks in the near future - 3 days a week $900 -$1500 per week depending on o/t etc

Will probably go the job at the smelter...............

its good that I don't have to leave the area, or my wife and kids and they will be looked after and house and falcons paid for......

Working seven days a week and no days off is for suckers.

Graham.

Former Sucker.

forgot to add.... bloke who has helped me get the job at the smelter has also told me he can get work for me at bhp in the gong.

last bloke he got a job (and I know this bloke) worked friday nights and saturday nights only....take home $1100. no experience, just the right tickets. So a big  and a :smilielol: to all those doubters in xr6tland that thought my expectations were unrealistic.

And thanx to those who were supportive and/or less dismisive.

My wife has already put her order in for a XR5 so I don't know if im going to see any of this extra money.....(I wouldn't mind upgarding myself to a F6) Anyway....to all those out there that hate there job that much to the point that you feel crook when yuor on your way to work.....QUIT....do it now......in my experiences (And I have lived a life well beyond most 24yrolds) everything always works out for the best. Im still livin, spendin more time with the wife and kids and T and lovin it.

There are sh*t loads of jobs in the mines in the valley, I know, I got one and didnt even apply for one, 12.5 hr shifts, 3.5 days per week ( 3 one week 4 the next), no sick leave, no Hols, but good work and lots of learning, $105K + overtime + super.

Suits me, but I have 20 years in the industry.

try a contracting mob like TESA, or Skilled, they are your best shot to get in.

The contractin company that im talking about is M.E.S. (mining and earthmoving services). Yes there are plenty of jobs for skilled and unskilled, but in this area, its who you know.

A mine in Pelton just 10mins from me has reopened and is owned by a chinese company - thier translator and a manager live next door. They told me yesterday they will put me straight in in there next intake- I would never be considered.

I got on to MES cos a mate of mine knows the rucruitment officer, same as the smelter, a mate of mine is mates with the recruitment dude.

Its who you know around here...there is work but the mines arn't desparate for staff like they are in the north or west.
