I've been tempted to get an edit, but a little wary with all this talk of Ford being able to detect it.  I'm sceptical they can because unless they can catch you in the act, any legal argument will be their accusation against my denial.  With Ford's poor quality control and servicing track record, where's the proof that the ECU didn't already have a message on it, or it was left by one of their service monkeys, etc.  Of course Ford will say they can tell, to get us all doubting, but has anyone actually been caught?  An I mean a stock car, reflashed to stock (not with old tunes etc), driven by a respectable looking person, just in for a service.

While you may be technically correct about "proving" you had edit, Ford will just deny your claim. It will then be up to you to make them fix it. They have been known to dig in their heels and then you are gonna have to go legal to make them.

Also when you play you pay if anything mod related breaks.

Warranty is a game that can be played nice or nasty, the problem is we do not have deep enough pockets to go toe to toe with Ford.

Myself, I am certain that Ford can detect the Edit in BF's and this is why my car will remain stock.

I have seen the numerous threads stating Ford can detect a vehicle that has had an edit on it, but I don't think anyone on here has had their warranty knocked back unless they did something stupid (Ie. did not flash back to standard)

I am happy to stand corrected however by anyone who can say that Ford did explicitly state "You have altered the factory PCM flash" and have their warranty claim denied as a result.

In the time that I have visited this forum I have found most of your comments/ problems/ advice invaluable. My car hasn't had a fraction of the drama other people have had but it has given me the knowledge to check for obvious things and avoid some of the problems before they arise, thanks guys.

I wonder if you could help me again.

I would like to upgrade from my 2004 BA XR6T to a current model but have heard a few  comments made about brakes, build quality etc that might not make it such an appealing choice from an upgrade perspective. I have an auto and would love to upgrade to the ZF box version. I have started a poll to help me and would like anyone willing to list any issues they may have had todate with their BF autos.

I know its another poll, but it might help others as well.

Andrew, I have a BF Turbo with the ZF 6 Speed Box driven daily in city traffic with 9000km on the clock, no brake shudder so far, previous Falcon auto's I've owned and driven in the same area had constant shudder issues within 5000km of machining or replacing rotors including my EF and my AU Series 3 XR6. The BF Turbo has the larger Territory brakes front and rear, they're huge take a look at one next time one pulls up beside you.

The ZF box is superb, you'll be impressed no matter what mode you chose to drive in. A clever box. After 9000kms it still makes me smile. It does what you feel it should be doing without touching the stick.

As the other guys have said the build quality could be better. My rear door mould had very little paint on it, over the top section you could see the black colour underneath the bionic colour. My triangular A/C vent wasn't fitting properly, my steering box had the clicking, ticking sound (just loose) all fixed under warranty.

I paid the extra grand or so and opted for the 6 year warranty as well.

All in all after sorting out a few teething problems to be expected with a new car I am one very happy XR6T owner.

Every time I drive another car and jump back into mine it feels so bloody good in so many ways, you've only got to drive something else to remind you how good these cars are.

My BF manual has done 7k and I have had both front and rear windscreens re-sealed. Front was "apparently" installed too proud after I noticed the plastic shelf under the wipers was rattling and the rear had a depression in the seal running along the top. Ford have been pretty cool about it but, paying for the window tint to be re-applied as the rear windscreen had to be thrown out along with the seals. Have a rattle eminating from the trans area, might look into the handbrake as mentioned earlier. And experimenting with the blow-off valve, as I loosened the turbo intake pipe at the top it just fell out from the turbo, wasn't even screwed in.

Still an awesome car!

Wow, 6850km, three high speed 180+ km/hour (for hours!) runs and abuse around town, maybe im just lucky? not a squeek, not a thud, not even a brake shudder!

ZF box amazing, not a problem so far!!!

one thing that I noticed (and expected but still annoying to some degree) is that the locking on the hard cover seems to be too close a fit and requires some degree of force, 10min's in the sun, and the locks are very hard to lock more so then open, but its just the plastics and metal expanding :(

Otherwise, the only other thing is excessive rear tyre wear :spoton: , rotated once already but have the feeling the tyres wont last me another 6k :tease:

tee hee..

With your tyre wear, consider inflating them another 5PSI and see if that helps. Ford stated tyre pressures are ridiculous. Should also improve your fuel economy.
