:beerchug: Can anyone tell me why the ute weighs approx 50kg more than the sedan? Also, what is the weight of the factory hard torneau and the ute liner if anyone knows. If no-one knows, I'll ring Ford next week. Thanks. :innocent:

not sure on the hard cover weight ... would guess about 30kg

the Ford utes generally weigh more because of the hybrid chassis ... the weight is in the "rails"

...this is why the utes are commonly referred to as "sleds" :D

hope it helps ... let us know about the hard cover weight though I like the soft tonneau :innocent:

if you think of a ute being a 2 door car, compaired to a 4 door car then the weight extra on the ute doesn't make sence. When you think that the ute is designed to carry 1 tonne on its back then you start to see why its heavy. to carry a load. I know the xr utes are limited in there weight they canc arry but the body of the utes are all the same! try sticking 1 tonne in the back of a wagon and see how it goes. not well I think!

Thanks for that guys, does make sense. But there is no way in the world you could put 1 tonne in the back of a ute.Thay are rated at 590kg but I would not like to carry that load very often. So with 5 larger people in a sedan and some gear in the boot, would add to 550+KG !!!!

pleaseeeee explain.... Thank you

PS did I metion my ute arrives hopefully in one week

Hardtop with spoiler is around 50kg... the pursuit is heavier then the GT by 70 kg... The chassis rails are the killer!.. Even though, pursuit, XR8, XR6 utes only rated to carry less then 1/2 tonne they still share the same chassis as the XL 1 tonner.

50kg ... struth ... definitely a two man job to get off and on ... eh?!

how is the big boss sled Charlie ? are you still grinning ? :D :D

tango ... 590kg including you ! and the go juice.... another interesting thing is to note that the distance between wheel arches in the tray is about 1150mm in the XRs and Pursuit as distinct from the 1250mm in the XT ... Ford did not want the XRs (&P) carrying sheets of plaster or whatever ... pretty clever :innocent:

tango ... you will love your new XRT sled .... well balanced for an ice-skater  j/k

enjoy

you also gotta remember that the ute has a lot of metal in the back.

Not just 1 sheet of metal on the outside (like the sedan), but its also got the inside of the tray too.

I think the plastic liner tub has been modified, the utes don't really have wheel arches as such .. check out the Ford site and specs for utes ..

saw it when I was buying the ute and thought that it was a clever way to protect the shockers etc etc on the XRs & P

Actually the XR utes and Pursuit have been given a little extra room inside the rear wheel arches. The plastic liner has just been modified to accomodate this.

My guess for the reason is that due to higher tourque levels, the wheels were contacting the chassie rails on hard launches. This happened constantly to me on my AU ute when I had the blower on it, leaving small scrape marks both on the chassie and the wheel.

I think it also brings the width between the wheel arches to just inside the width of a standard pallet I think, reducing the chance that the ute will be overloaded.
