I don't get it.

I'm using Xede with my edit. Have been for a long time.

I can change boost, from zero ( wastegate controlled ) to 25psi if I choose, I can alter fuel/timing aswell. Everything that Xcal2 can do.. I can have 100 different maps if I wanted..

I have limitless combinations when combined with 3 edit tunes to boot.

Second hand xedes' are going for $100.

You still need a wideband to check AFR's AFAIK, so who's going to shell out for one?? Anyone here?? ~$2k for the Autronics unit. Some DIY guys on the net have a build it yourself kit for $600-$700..

Brian, apart from my laziness in not calling capa myself......................., so when you make a change on the controller, is it permanent?

I was told no.

or does it revert to the standard (custom) tune when the car is switched off or does it retain the change until we change it back?

I didn't ask about turning the engine off, but I'd expect so.

We'll know in a weeks time when we test it out.

Ben,

True, true, true.... but probably more than the XCAL 2.

But, you are a DIY guy, about 2% of the market. YOU take responsibility if you fiddle and have problems, unlike many people.

From memory there were cam timing changes that happen, when you use an interceptor, that you cannot control, that will not allow you to maximise power, so whilst the XEDE has advantages for you in the way you use it, it is not an optimum solution.

I still have my XEDE, plus software. Are you telling me it's only worth $100.

It might go up in value.

I am more interested in the fact that when I go and do a track day, I can dial in a little more fuel to run it a little richer to help with cooling for example.

However, Ben that is a good point about running an Xede with an Edit. But after the issues I had with my ute a couple of years ago and my cousin and his T more recently, I personally will never touch one (any piggyback) again - IMHO.

I would be happy to put together a simplified version of our training seminars that we run for workshops, if the numbers were there

Hey Simon,

Count me in for one of those seminars.. I was at the HP-F training session when jerry was in australia, but I was only tuning the v8's then.

But since owning my turbo, As I told you, this is the first BA turbo I've tuned, and I've learnt a hell of a lot from it. (although if you look at your dynos logging, afr wasnt totally flat..)

on another note..

I thought the Datalogger and Excalibrator 2 were the same product.. They are in the US.. Is the Datalogger a flash disabled Excalibrator 2?

Danny.

Ok. Here's a functionality question.

CAPA/SCT, when the *beep* are we going to see support for the ZF 6-speeds? With over 80% of the BF Turbo's being auto's, it's about time support is offered.

Frankly, until the ZF support is released for the SCT V2.9 and V3.0 software, I really doubt the ability of CAPA/SCT to support any other product they release :nono:

Dangerous times! ... The complexity of the Ford PCM is nothing to be taken so lightly.

Even a couple of degrees timing can cause a disaster. The complex relationships between temperatures, torque control, O2 sensor reading, air temps etc etc etc will make the DIY product such a destructive tool.

Most tunes are set to run the car near or at the limites of what an engine can tolerate. Hearing all the stories about detonation and broken bottom ends means that such a tool is only going to increase the failure rate.

Leave the tuning to the guys who know what they are doing who have the right equipment and experience. If the car is not running right or is not performing as well as what you would like then take it to the experts. It will be cheaper to have the car looked at and retuned rather that have to replace an engine!

Don’t know why anyone would play with there own tune (unless 100% competent). Leave the tuning to the experts this is why we have them tune our cars in the 1st place.

If your car has been tuned to its optimum safe level, then playing with your tune will only end with a box of kleenex.
