I just have question. I want to put in a Apexi turbo timer. Sum1 told me that I wil first have to tune the ECU b4 puttin it in. TO be honest I really dont know wat he said, but if u guys think that is true, then pliz help me as to wat I should do, coz I wanna put the timer in. Has anyone got any instructions.

Thanx guys

You dont need a turbo timer, just either dont fang it for about 2 klms before you turn it off or sit in the driveway for about 2 mins to let it cool down.

There may still be issues with the ECU's, earlier on there was, people were having trouble wiring turbo timers up. This could well have been fixed.

IMHO save yourself some $$$$ and just idle it down.

Dude, get with the times, turbo timers are for old, lower-tech Jap turbos. You dont need one.

I have even read articles linking turbo timers with increased desire to use buttplugs.

Turbo timers are for wanks who think they need to drive everywhere at 600,000 rpm then have the need to turn the car off at full revs.

The idea behind them is than once the ignition is turned off, so it the turbo's oil supply and if too hot and spinning too long, will cause damage to them.

Do a test, start your car then turn it off and listen to how long it takes the turbo to wind down after idle. Basically, if you take it easy the last part of your trip, once you pull up and the car is sitting at idle, the turbo is revolving at its lowest rpm and keeping this going is pointless as it has to be turned off and come down from the same speed anyway, and it's not getting any cooler sitting still with no airflow.

As far as warming up goes, just like any other car, take it easy until the car hits temp. Letting a cold engine sit and idle doesn't allow the oil to circulate properly which is not good for a cold motor.

You shouldnt fang in any car 5 minutes prior to coming to a complete stop. Regardless if it has turbo or not and whether you idle or not, your car will trap in heat and its not good news for the engine and tranny...

if you think that idling for 3 mins will cure your hooning 5 mins prior... guess again.

Good point, it's just that it's even more crutial in a turbo because of the turbo itself and the increase in heat generated from a turbo engine.

Mate this topic has been covered many times, and always the vast majority said a Turbo Timer was uneccesary.

If you decide to anyway good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

I fitted one to my T with no worries at all, spliced all the wires into the loom behind the ignition switch, simple to do and works a treat. I know that its probly not necessary but its just some cheap peace of mind for me and it is good if u have a "brain fade"and accidentally shut your car off immediately after giving it a caning. I used a Blitz FATT DC IV. Beaut little unit, only cost me about $80 from memory.

Dont believe because it has water cooling and a ball bearing cartridge you can just switch it off and all will be fine. Its still got oil running through the cartridge, and after a good thrash the oil is dam hot and if its not super clean oil it will sludge up when it cools and sits in the oil feed line... if this line gets restricted through years of old oil sitting in it guess whats gonna happen...
