Guest Hydro Guests Posted 09/12/02 01:26 AM Share Posted 09/12/02 01:26 AM The only problem I've experienced with the manual is the metal gear knob gets bloody hot if the car has been parked in the sun. I've got a change patern burned into the palm of my left hand, but I still love it!

LOL We live in country Victoria, l'm 33, my wife 27 and it cost us $467 comprehensive with the RACV, even cheaper than what we were quoted when we first ordered the car.l am very happy with that, nearly half of what the TS50 cost. Anyone know that for sure?

Anyone know that for sure? Yes i can back that statement up. Before i bought the XR6T i was doing a comparison on insurance prices. Found out through someone in VIC that RACV had quoted them $700 or so. I had phoned NRMA was given the quote of $2900 or so, AAMI wanted $4400 and Ford Insure was $2400. I phoned RACV and asked them why the difference was so much for the same car and age bracket. They told me basically due to me living in Sydney, more cars on the road, more thefts, more population that I was basically more likely to either have an accident or have my car stolen. This was the main reason they justified the extra cost in insurance. I can now understand why alot of rental cars get their vehicles registered in Victoria and bring them here. Seems to be alot cheaper. But then again I suppose the cost of living in Sydney is alot. Recently been shopping for a house and i dont think i can find something decent in Sydney for under $500,000. Everything is just too expensive.

The gearbox is magic ... ...It's set in a *much* better position than the AU and it's quite a short shift......Pedal positions have also changed and you can no longer heel and toe... Your reactions to the gearbox are almost identical to mine! Comming from an AUII XR6 VCT manual, the gearbox feels much nicer - esp. the positioning of the shifter and its throw. It also tends to shift sweeter. The only complaint I have with the gearbox is that reverse is sometimes hard to select. Also the clutch is much lighter than the one on the old XR6 - Although this is for the non Turbo and the Turbo may have a heavier clutch.I too am also a little disapointed with the pedal placement too :(. In the old XR6 the pedal placement was perfect for heal and toe downshifts, in the new Barra it is very difficult to make smooth heal and toe downshifts - something to work on. :D Got to love Manual Gearboxes! - Now if only it was a Turbo :(
