Well, today I fitted a Nizpro intercooler I got from Simon B-( Extreme.). Must say, well very well thought out cooler. True bolt in, no cutting involved for fitment if using the Nizpro rubber pipe. I 'convinced' a bit of my front end to give a little room for my pipework, nothing major, and only the single skin bit.....

I am doing things in stages, so I can gauge the effect on each mod in relation to worthiness and power gain.. ( Cooler, Pod into turbo, then Plenum )

So, for the first step. Install Cooler, and keep the factory crossover and intake intact. Easy.

I went about the plumbing the APS way, connecting to factory crossover and TB. Pretty damn easy to fab up.

I used alumised Mild Steel. This is not a permanent fixture.

Parts required. 2x 1.5m lengths of 2.5" pipe.

1x Doughnut. ( don't f**ck up, you need every bit of it!! ) I got 2 anyway, $50ea from Magic tune exhausts, Maddington for Perth people..

90 Deg silicone bend

Cost- $100.00

I fabbed my own under headlight pipe, even though I have the Nizpro supplied one..

So, cut Doughnut into bits, when required and weld to pipe.

Thankyou Ford for providing the perfect amount of room under headlight for a 2.5" silicone 90 deg bend

From here it was a case of path of least distance to TB. So, few straight bits, couple of bends and badda bing. Pistola easy..

Final spot welded pic follows. All in all it turned out, literally perfect. Bonnet closes without touching pipework ( tight fit ) and clearance over Steering fluid ressie..

VERY pleased with pipework. It's to be painted black, to help the heat situation.

As you can see, it's all one piece ( Until tomorrow ). This was necessity driven, not intentional.. I forgot Silicone joiners, but the length from the 90deg silicone bit was such it didn't care to loose 60mm from each end, bonus..

The verdict: I don't know :spoton:

I am still yet to connect boost sensors so I dawdled home from the father in laws with it never coming on boost, but it feels pretty snappy for such featherlight foot application. He has every tool and material bits and pieces, except plenty of line for a boost signal.. :stirthepot:

Biggest NONO.. The crossover pipe design. I have no idea why APS do it like this. While it's cheap, and does the job, I lifted the bonnet when I got home after a 20 min drive, ( Never coming on boost ) and I could NOT touch the pipework from the radiator on.

Above the battery ( swapped sides ), it was as cold as a piece of steel pipe could be. 400mm upstream, burnie fingers.. Very ordinary placement..

It may be the fact it's alumised Mild Steel, but Ally would toast aswell, and transfer the heat straight to the charge air alot more efficiently than any other metal. Maybe painting it black will help a little????

I'll be logging intake charge temps for this pipe design, when it's painted black, maybe heat shielded and finally when the plenum is in..

Big day, very easy job with the right tools at your disposal, and looks the goods finished..

Roll on boost :crybaby:

Nice job. Certainly looks like a good cooler. It will be interesting to see what improvement you get on the road / dyno, particularly boost vs rwkw

Nice work on the cooler man, those pics are some of the most helpful I've seen. That third one really puts the whole thing into perspective, especially with the cooler-to-crossover pipework.

So the Nizzer cooler - that a tube and fin?

Design is good. The wog one was going to be the same, but different..

Will report back on how it goes in the coming days.. Starting to get quite warm in Perth now..
