Hi All

I'm getting close to deciding on a new pair of tyres for the front of the 'phoon. So far I'm down to a choice of three different tyres and I wonder if anyone has had experience with these tyres.

Option (1) Dunlop Sport Maxx 245/35/19 $380

Option (2) Toyo Proxes TR1 245/35/19 $395

Option (3) Goodyear F1 GD03 245/35/19 $420

I'm looking for a good all rounder for a reasonable price, good grip (wet and dry), long life, quiet and doesn't wear on the outside shoulder.

These seem to be the pick of the bunch from what I can tell but I need real life experiences to help me choose.

Any suggestions or comments welcome.

Cheers

Big AL

I've just had two Dunlop Sport Maxx's put on the front of mine and they are a huge inprovement on what I had - Hankook K104's.

They grip really well in the dry and seem to be good in the wet aswell (Haven't had much rain since I got them).

I've also heard alot of good things about the Toyo Proxes aswell but haven't had first hand experience with them.

Either way, I don't think you'll be dissapointed in terms of bang for buck!

Sports Maxx Al,

Althought the last set I had I left most of them outside a freinds place in Carrara.

The rest of them are on the corners of Maudsland Road.

I've also heard good stuff about the sports maxx, it'll probably be what I get... also heard that kuhmo ecsta or something are decent? and cheap? not sure though..

Also, shop around for the sports maxx, the cheapest quote I got was $350 fitted. Ranged from that to $390

Al, I have the Toyo's on the back of mine, pretty good tyre considering what it is trying to hold................

Mate, when I replace my rears, I am going to put exactly what I have on the front - Yokohama Advans. Awesome tyre - although it isn't on your list.............

Didn't the Dunlop Sportmaxx win the tyre test in Motor mag not long ago??

The maxxis MA-Z1 is not a track tyre but very good in the wet. Came 3rd in the Motor tyre test and 80 bucks cheaper than the Sports maxx.

Wouldn't piss on any of them...

Michelin Pilot Preceda 2, Pirelli P Zero Nero would be the best of the cheaper options.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2, Pirelli P Zero Rosso would be the top of line.

Wouldn't touch the Pirellis either. The P Zeros have never come close in any tyre test I've seen to winning, wet or dry. The Goodyear and Sport Maxx beat it in the wet, last longer and are cheaper. Pirelli IMO are overated and overpriced.

Bridgestone RE050A

Goodyear GS-D3

Dunlop Sport Maxx

Yokohama Advan 103

Michelin PS2

All of these are very good, but the new Bridgestone are rated #1 on the US tirerack.com website, with the others filling the next 3 places (Yokies not yet rated).
