For those of you who have the new BA or the XR6T with Premium sound i remember a while ago someone said that the audio gets louder as you drive and softer as you slow down. How does this option work? Ive had a look through the options on the stereo and found nothing.. Is it the audio compression option? :o from having it checked to on, i didnt notice any difference in volume.

It is the audio compression and it doesn't increase/decrese volume, it modifies the compression of the sound itself. I've found that it doesn't tend to work that well on my older Explorer unit, so I have it turned off.

I've mucked around with mine too. To my ears it sounds better off. It is supposed to make softer parts of a track eaiser to hear above the road noise.

Thanks guys, was a bit confused as to what it was supposed to do. Heard from a few people that it adjusted to speed (must have meant road noise)

Thanks

What its meant to do is calculate the effect of road noise inside the cabin and adjust the audio properties to counteract the white noise. However, what it really does is make quiet bits louder and loud bits quieter using pretty basic wavelength clipping -- which results in the high and low ends of your music being clipped too, usually.

With volume controls on the steering wheel, I plan just to manually adjust as required. :)

Falchoon - where there's a wallet big enough to fund the changeover, there's someone willing to do it. The sound is pretty good to start with, but the hardest one is likely to be the A-Pillar - it's a tweeter that is actually embedded into the trim.

I don't know how hard it would be though. Know anyone who's good with interiors? :)

The extra Amp on the premium sound is on the left hand side of the boot under the carpet, I pulled the whole carpet out of the boot when I got it.

I play around alot with the premium system in my dads AU2 ghia, the power limiter works, but I dont tend to use it because I know when a stereo is limiting, so I can understand if its too loud or not, and with that, I also know the average volume levels you can put music on without it limiting.

with the compression on, the usual level for bassy music can be around 11 depending on the bass, if it's not real bassy, you can push it to around level 15. (this is on cd's), other music you can boost to around the 18 mark.

on the radio, you can push it anywhere from 20 to 25, as it doesn't really play at a high level, however, I still keep an eye on it.

compression off means you can turn it up louder, but I haven't really speculated on it... the system sounds that much better with the compression on, as opposed to it being off.
