Mildman Member 149 Member For: 19y 3m 15d Posted 25/10/06 04:01 AM Share Posted 25/10/06 04:01 AM (edited) I have been given the impression that the ZF auto is quicker down the 1/4 mile in stock form than the manual. And I can tell you from experience that sometimes the car isn't so interested in changing into 3rd gear at full noise at around 100 kph (end of 2nd gear). Mostly due to my crappy clutch work, but I don't think that is the only reason.I used to drive skylines and never had these shifting issues in those - and they revved a lot higher. At the end of the day I think just go with what you want - the technical articles are of little real world interest, even the theoretical 1/4 mile considerations. The decision I believe is now personal, they are simply at least equal in their capabilties - and each have their advantages.Auto tow better, get better fuel economy, (maybe make better power)Manual heel toe better, make the drive a bit more involved (using another foot). So what do you want out of the car? Will it drive 1/4 all day? Is it a dedicated circuit weapon? A daily driver with some poke? Edited 25/10/06 04:04 AM by Mildman

I guess I will just have to drive both cars and determine this for myself, you guys seem indecisive. lol...Cheers guys!←Mate, I take offence to the above post. Eveyone who has replied to your post has given you their knowledge and experiences. So no indecisiveness at all. Reguardless of what has been said you appear to be adamant about a manual, in my opinion rightly so. So either buy a manual, or test both and make a decision. but stop f*cking the forum around.ScottyPS Mods I hope this is not out of line.

I can flat change 2nd - 3rd and not get any engine over rev by dropping shift points, and I also don't get out of peak torque. ( I also don't have an in-gear limiter set either ) The F6 clutch helps this a great deal too.
Mildman Member 149 Member For: 19y 3m 15d Posted 25/10/06 08:09 AM Share Posted 25/10/06 08:09 AM I'll give it a try tonight - I'm only changing at 100kph as that is about 6000rpm (the rev limit). This seems to be quicker than short shifting 2nd - but as I have never gone down the quarter to check....I could never be sure.

If the T56 was a super quick slick shifting box ala Porsche 911 then it'd be hard to pass up. On any other car but the turbo, I'll always go manual and for small capacity NA engines, autos are complete waste of time and should be banned.
