couldnt you get a heaps quicker launch in manual by dropping the clutch at like 3000 rpm and kill an auto in like a 0-100 km.h time?

3000rpm, I wish, even if I only have 1800 on the tacho and dump it, the tyres lite up.

.............................. stock dunlops

GO the auto, unless you realy realy want shift it your self.

I was faced with this decision last week myself - having owned a BA MK2 5spd manuial, then a BF 6 speed manual - now I'm picking up a BF2 in the 6 speed auto.

After driving the auto I found it changed faster than the manual and in normal driving was much more adept at keeping the revs down saving fuel. The ride was smoother and faster. Also forget the notion that the manual has less drive train loss than the auto....it doesn't anymore. With torque lockup the auto looses less in the drivetrain than the manual.

The only reason left I had to own a manual was that I like to change gears and heel toe downshift. (I've got a manual circuit car to do that with now).

Here is one of hundereds of massive threads on this issue of auto v manual.

Big thread

I'm a manual man, always have been from my first car which was a datsun skyline to my Mk11 GT Cortina and all my 4X4's in between - never owned an auto.

I like the manual for crusing but the auto is heaps better in traffic and at the drags.

I've driven all - 5 speed, 6 speed and 6 speed auto - the auto is pretty nice, but I personally think the manual is more fun.

I agree, the autos better, but the manuals more fun

hey guys, thanks for your help,

as for the auto not losing boost pressure, you can do the same with the manual, just hold the accelorator down slightly when shifting gears which will keep the butterfly open, but you must shift quick.

So for a standard BF XR6 TURBO, the times are about the same is this correct (If one drives manual very well)?

nd plus with auto you wouldn't be able to get the sexy flutter if you wanted to between gear changes.

I guess I will just have to drive both cars and determine this for myself, you guys seem indecisive. lol...

Cheers guys!
