Don't touch the 5 speed manual, if the budget can't stretch for the mkII six speed manual then stick with the auto :fool:

The only other common issue is diff whine - but if you have a Mrs then it's not really that bad in comparison!

Oh and

wow, diff whine, havent ford fixed that yet? I had that problem with a 94 ED fairmont ghia I had in days past. Oh well Ill keep an ear out for that too when test piloting :)

thanks for the input...

Firthy

Luck of the draw apparently....I drew bad on four occasions though with the BA though:laughing:

Hey, 1st post here... Im considering a XR6T (Mark I BA) with 40-60k on the clock (most probably the auto, but like the manual as well).

Now part from brake shudder, power windows slow are there any other issues that I should worry about with this model? Ive googled and came up with these

I dont think I can fit a Mark II into my budget, but issues with that model as well appreciated?

Ill be leaving it stock for the time being, but will be opening her up every now and then and dont wanna come across something that will cost me a fortune that I shoulda been aware of.

Thanks

Firthy

They are great cars. Nothing major wrong except Id go auto box. The only negative thing about this car is poor panel and fit... otherwise it goes like clappers, cheap to mod and looks great!

The BAMk1's are getting to the end of there warranties with some now outside the 3 years. If it doesnt worry you then go for it, but the BAII would be a more secure option. Repairs on these cars outside of warranty are very expensive!

p.s. even the BF's have shudder.

Welcome to the nuthouse mate.

Plenty of people have come on and asked exactly what you have now. Handbrake, a bit of driveline shunt and a few niggles are common to MK 1's.

I dont believe there will be anything serious that will cost you a fortune to fix.

I'll get in early and say autos are quicker if you plan to mod.

Good luck.

So that's why the group a tourers,gt3 cup cars and practicaly every other form of racing use manual gearboxes, cause the autos are quicker, silly me.

Mines a '04 Mk 1, done the brake rotors under warranty. Also have had the exhaust heat shield rattle issue that's ongoing...... Been back to the dealer twice so far. Now has 54000ks on it, bought it at 34000 in Jan this year.

Its been an awesome car. One of the best Ive owned.

Apart from all the issues, everyone still rates there cars highly. Shows that what you get in the long run is well worth it.
