Ok, well after a bit of a long winded discussion (argument) with my old man, he said that if I could sell my car for 25k he'd give me $1000. He doesn't think that it could get that much. Reckons I'd be lucky to get 20k

Now, obviously my car is in a predicament as we all know its got the dredded T5. Its also been in an accident, but the repairs are sufficient, and will be re-done shortly anyways. So the hypothetical unsuspecting buyer wouldn't know about the repairs.

Now, heres a description of my car.

2004 BA Mk1 XR6T

38,000km

Premium sound

Sports leather seats

SS CAI

4 inch magic cat

centre muffler removed and hot dogs in place

ASE intercooler

Extreme tuned edit to 304rwkw

Upgraded Mal Wood option 2 clutch

968 injectors

upgraded fuel pump

19" fusion wheels with slightly worn tyres.. one needs replacing

lowered 2"

Rear wing removed and boot fixed/resprayed

Cobalt boost gauge/AFR in typhoon pod

Also have 4x XR 17" rims with new rubber

Standard cat converter

Standard Intercooler plus another ASE intercooler

Rear Wing in perfect condition

I think that's all of it, I don't think I've forgotten anything, but it gives the general idea of what they'd get for 25k.

So, do you think 25k would be a reasonable target?

Return the Car to stock and sell the Mods seperately as they rarely increase the value of the car.

if the gbox is knackered you can only trade it in mate as no-one will buy it.. I'd be taking the mods off to as you'd make more cash.

I agree with the rest, get the car back to Stock and seel the rest. You should get over $25k for the car and may be another $3k+ for the parts.

yep, I agree guys, I would return it to stock if I did sell it, but as I said, it was just a hypthetical.

Gearbox is still fine at this stage  I'm just more interested in peoples thoughts on what it would be worth as a hypthetical. If you want to make your assumptions on the car being stock, then go for it, as I have no doubts I'd return it to stock if I was selling it. I just listed the mods there for the sake of having all info.

I notice its almost even between the 22-24k and 25-27k... for the guys who think it'll fetch under 25k is there any particular reason? keeping in mind, that if I were to sell it, it would be sold in canberra, has relatively low kms etc. Obviously the whole "car accident" thing will sway people to offer less, but if they didn't know it had been in a crash then that wouldn't affect the price.

People might be wary of the T5, but again, if they didn't know it had been modded and I returned it to standard, then it would all be good.

Just curious that's all, and the only real way I'll ever find out is if I put it on the market, and that ain't happening any time soon. Unless my old man wants to up the ante and offer me $1000 for every $1000 its over the 25k mark <_< so if I sold it for 27k, I'd really be getting 29k... hmmm.. perhaps I should go speak with the old man

Cheers Cro, that's probably what I was expecting would be the $ figure on mine, but who knows. As is the case, the car is only worth what some one is willing to pay! Plus, Blood orange isn't exactly out there as much as some of the other colours, so if anyone was particularly looking for that colour and low kms, you just never know!

My tips for a successful private sale:

1. Make your asking price close to what you want and don't put "ono" eg $26k or $27k in your case

2. Never be in a hurry.

3. Advertise heavily online and in papers / trading posts and use picture ads wherever possible. There's a reason why dealers always use pictures.

4. Always be totally honest. Point out scratches and faults. Tell them the car was modded. Encourage mechanical inspections. People respect this and trust you, making your car more attractive than a dealer bought one.

5. Always go with any test driver and check their licence first.

Good luck!
