Custom Install Problems (noise)

OK this has been a nightmare and I want it fixed.

OK Let me start at the beginning

1. I installed POLK Speakers and a JL Audio amp on the back of the back seats. I ran the power cables for the amp directly from the battery trying to reduce feedback through the body. Noise Issues started

2. I got the Alpine pro hub because I wanted a Ipod interface, dvd plackback (which I haven't setup as yet) and to get rid of the high to low level convertors.

Still got Noise Issues

Current Situation I installed a filter on the postive at the battery which helped but not enough. The noise is a whine, also I noticed there is a similar noise coming from the engine bay which I think might be the Alternator, has anybody else had the same problem?

Please guys help me

if anyboby knows a place I could take it to get it fixed I'd be willing to pay

the most common cause for in car audio whine is ground differentials. and the quickest way to find out if that's your problem is to unplug the rca leads at the amp end and see if the whine is still there. if it is then your whine is power related (not as common). if the whine goes away once you pull the rcas out then you have an earth loop created through the ground in the rca line.

to fix the latter you install a line isolation transformer. keep in mind that this will effect your bottom end as they act like a high pass filter when you use them.

let me know how you go, if it is the rca's I may have a product that will fix it all for you and not get any frequency loss in the process.

Do you have noise with the stereo turned off? I had noise in my speakers even with the stereo off, this was due to the location of the crossovers for the front splits. I moved them into the doors and I have no more problems

I Have mounted my cross over under the dash near the kick panel, the power cables for my amp run right passed it.

I haven't tried to see if it makes the noise when the radio is switched off. I'll give it a go tonight. I have noticed that the noise is mainly coming from the driver's side front seaker.

I pulled the RCA's out and I am still getting the noise. What do u recommend?

Firstly... Where is your earth to the chassis????? If you ran it back to the battery (Bad) change it. The shorter the earth the better. Run earth under the back seat (Best place toi earth it) drill a new hole, use sandpaper to remove paint and screw earth terminal to the floor. Paint over after screwing it down to stop rust. Secondly do the same for the earth from the battery to the chassis and earth from motor to the chassis. This is a part that is often overlooked. Factory earthing is very poor. I guarantee that this will fix the problem. I did custom car audio installations for 5 years. Seen this problem, so many times. Good to see that you have chosen good products (Alpine) Good luck...
